It seems that there is always some person involved in our local government process who thinks that they can dictate what happens. In this case in Costa Mesa it is Jim Righeimer, who couldn’t get elected as a dog-catcher if his life depended on it, who thinks he’s in charge.
Instead of engaging in a real dialogue about the fundamental differences we have when it comes to energy policy and offshore drilling – me adamantly opposed to drilling California’s coast and Calvert adamantly for – he wasted no time resorting the same dirty political tricks that desperate candidates use when they can’t run from their record.
“As Members of Congress, it is our duty to speak for those who have no voice. We must collectively stand up for the freedom of these activists by urging the Vietnamese government to unconditionally release these activists. We as Members of Congress have an obligation to engage the Government of Vietnam and call on them to uphold and respect human rights by releasing all activists.”
Unfortunately Chris Prevatt was unable to make it to the Santa Ana City Council meeting to give Claudia Alvarez a hard time. Fortunately I was able to step in and do one of my favorite pasttime activities, piss off Claudia Alvarez. It seems to have worked. To understand the events leading up to this, at the last Council meeting, Claudia Alvarez censored several speakers who tried to say her name claiming that interrupted the “decorum” of the meeting, but allowed two former Councilmembers to mention specific current Councilmembers by name. She clearly abused her power as acting Mayor and Chris Prevatt rightfully pointed it out on several posts here on The Liberal OC.
In an April 6 letter to Nelson, the FPPC said “your actions violated the (Political Reform) Act” because he should have filed his statement by March 12 but “only filed your statement on March 22, 2010, after you learned that a sworn complaint (by Grindle) was filed against you.”

Democrat Hoa Van Tran, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2008, is facing a $2,000 fine for failing to report $18,012 in campaign expenditures by the filing deadline. The Fair Political Practices Commission will consider the fine against Van Tran and then treasurer Phu Do Nguyen on May 13.

On Monday, May 3, 2010, Richard McKee acting on behalf of Californians Aware submitted a letter to the city of Westminster demanding that they rescind their action, which three Council members Diep, Quach, and Ta took outside a regular meeting of the City Council, because that action appears ot be in violation of the Brown Act.
