Hoa Van Tran Faces FPPC Fine – We told you this would happen

Hoa Van Tran

The Orange County Register reported on their OC Watchdog Blog yesterday an update on allegations of campaign finance irregularities on the part of former First District Supervisor Candidate Hoa Van Tran.

Hoa Van Tran faces $2,000 FPPC fine

Democrat Hoa Van Tran, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2008, is facing a $2,000 fine for failing to report $18,012 in campaign expenditures by the filing deadline. The Fair Political Practices Commission will consider the fine against Hoa Van Tran and then treasurer Phu Do Nguyen (not the Phu Nguyen currently running for State Assemblyin the 68th District) on May 13.

The 13 undisclosed expenditures amounted to 94 percent of his spending for the pre-election time period of Jan.1, 2008 through March 17, 2008. The commission learned of the problem when Hoa Van Tran filed an amended campaign report through new treasurer Xavier Martinez, according to commission documents.

I reported on these issues back when they initally came to light Hoa’s newest reports raise even more questions.

I guess this is where I get to say; “I told you so.”
