White House Press Office to Determine Press Pool after Associated Press Refuses to Name “The Gulf of America”

The Trump White House and the Associated Press wire service are at an impasse that’s going to boil down to a First Amendment case.  Trump’s team will not decide who’s in the press pool and who isn’t based on  that media outlet’s situation on the name of the Gulf — Mexico or America?
Can the USA legally change the name of The Gulf of Mexico to The Gulf of America” and how many miles from shore can the USA legally claim a name change in the gulf.

On Changing the Name:

  1. International Recognition: The Gulf of Mexico and its name are internationally recognized. Changing its name to “The Gulf of America” could cause diplomatic issues, particularly with Mexico and Cuba, who have long historical and geographical ties to the Gulf. The U.S. could theoretically try to change the name domestically, but it wouldn’t have any real authority to enforce that name change on international maps, publications, or recognition.

  2. Geographical Names and Sovereignty: While the U.S. could start referring to the Gulf in that way within its borders or in specific contexts (such as in legislation, business, or tourism), the global community would likely continue using “Gulf of Mexico” because it’s a well-established name. Changing a geographical name internationally usually requires broad consensus or treaty agreements between the countries involved, which is not the case here.

Legal Claims in the Gulf:

As for how far from shore the U.S. can claim, it’s determined by international law, specifically the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), even though the U.S. has not ratified the treaty.

  1. Territorial Waters: The U.S. can claim territorial waters up to 12 nautical miles (about 13.8 miles or 22.2 kilometers) from its coast. Within this zone, the U.S. has full sovereignty over the water, airspace, and seabed.

  2. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ): The U.S. can claim an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) extending 200 nautical miles (about 230 miles or 370 kilometers) from the coast, where it has special rights to explore, exploit, conserve, and manage natural resources, both living and non-living, in the water column and on the seabed. However, it doesn’t have sovereignty over the waters or the seabed in the EEZ, just exclusive rights to use and manage resources.

  3. Continental Shelf: The U.S. can also claim an extended continental shelf beyond the 200 nautical miles if it can demonstrate that the seabed naturally extends further. The U.S. has submitted claims to the United Nations for portions of the Gulf of Mexico’s continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, though some of those claims are still under review.

So, can the U.S. legally change the name?

No.

And as for territorial claims in the Gulf, the U.S. can claim 12 nautical miles for sovereignty and 200 nautical miles for exclusive economic rights, plus potentially more for its continental shelf depending on future claims and evidence.

For those of us who remember the great AP reporter Helen Thomas, she was always the first journalist called on my presidents of either party to ask a question.  Is the Trump White House so butt hurt that AP’s refusal to call on the wire service at all will kick a trusted media resource that serves newspapers, local radio and TV throughout the nation out of the press room?  It’s a chickenshit move

That’s just a conviction pretext for ridding the White House Press corps of of an organization that is so far left, they should rename it Pravda. AP is so biased in its reporting that they have lost all credibility and as such, they deserve to be cold cocked by the Trump admin in the hopes that they can be shocked into restoring even a small modicum of journalistic integrity and neutrality. Dan, we know you love AP.. they speak your language. Look at their style book.. nothing but woke revisionism of the English language in order to covertly advance the preferred narratives of the left.

    But then, I expect nothing less from Dan. He’s a true believer I. The great march forward towards a utopian future where we all just work for the common good and sacrifice out own well being for the greater community.

A funny thing happened on the way to the mailbox in Orange (or was it the one on Lincoln as Greg suspects or the now shuttered Stadium station) to Vern, realizing that they could only DELETE so many contrarian comments and fend off the outrage of Donnas behavior, They decided to create an imaginary enemy in “Bob”.

    Bob, since you are new here, I’ll summarize, Vern Nelson is an unemployed blogger, he is a FIVE TIME convicted drunk driver, He is a FELON, he and his deviant wife get off on sending pornographic messages to people (oh yeah, Vern has thrice been accused of sexual mis-conduct. His side kick is also unemployed, an attorney by training, Greg Diamond practices his brand of law (which is limited because he’s on public assistance and can’t claim income) from his dirty kitchen table ina Brea apartment. He also dismissed allegations of Vern sexually assault candidate for mayor because Vern can play chopsticks.

    Sorta reminds me of the current Presidential administrations practice of “look over here”.

I happen to think Vern Nelson & Greg Diamond are perhaps the lowest forms of human life stumbling around Orange County. I am in no way affiliated with that batch of drunken trailer trash.     The lamented about Anaheim council candidates taking Disney money for votes, when infact it only cost Tom Tait a casket to get Vern and Donna’s support.

    Keep those archive alive, Greg and Vern have been “scrubbing” theirs, I hope they used HEAVY GLOVES, there was some nasty sh!t there.
