The Register, as is their right, edited a letter to the editor penned by Irvine’s Sukhee Kang. We have no such restrictions and the letter wasn’t posted to the Register’s web page. So here it is in full:
I had the honor of serving my City of Irvine as a member of the City Council and as Mayor for eight years.
Throughout my tenure, I worked hard to build a reputation based upon honesty and integrity.
On Friday, a political mailer was distributed in Irvine using my photos and a series of statements attacking candidates Mary Ann Gaido, Larry Agran, and Melissa Fox.
I never made these statements and did not authorize the use of my photos in this dishonest mailer.
The mailer also falsely implied that I support the re-election of Mayor Steven Choi, and Councilmember Jeffrey Lalloway. I never endorsed them. I do not support them.
The sender of this fraudulent mailing is a political committee that calls itself The California Homeowners Association. This shady organization was exposed by Orange County Register political reporters Martin Wisckol, and Morgan Cook (Political group spends left and right Orange County Register 8/29/13).
Morgan and Cook called the California Homeowners Association, “A murky menagerie of interests,” and said that, “It’s a political action committee that has raised funds from sources as diverse as labor unions, business interests, conservative organizations, and Bay Area card rooms-one of which was implicated in a drug-manufacturing operation.”
These are certainly not people I would ever associate with. If they want to support Steven Choi and Jeffrey Lalloway that is their business but I strongly object to their brazen attempt to give themselves credibility by trading on my good name and reputation.
Irvine voters have an important decision to make on Tuesday. Our decision will determine the direction of our city for many years to come. I urge my fellow residents to carefully evaluate the positions of all of the candidates on the issues that really matter, then go to the polls and vote.
Sukhee Kang
Of all the lying TV ads and mailers appearing this election season supporting Choi and Lalloway, this one that I received in my mailbox a few days ago, with the photos of former Mayor Sukhee Kang appearing in juxtaposition to attacks on Councilmember Agran and former Councilmember Gaido, implying that they are Sukhee Kang’s words, was the most egregious and duplicitous.
The only entity that stands to gain hundreds of millions of dollars in profits from billions of dollars of development beyond the constraints of Irvine’s General Plan from the re-election of Choi and Lalloway is FivePoint Communities. So, I have to assume they are funding this money-no-object campaign to defeat Gaido, Agran and Fox, who have always made the Irvine community’s interests, rather than the developers’ interests paramount.
Who reads those stupid campaign mailers anyway?? Mine go straight into the trash can!!
Now that the election is over, can we quit the bickering and work together in the best interest of our city?! So tired of all the b.s.

The new council will do whatever Emile Haddad tells them to do. Future city agendas might as well have FivePoints logo on them.
