Huntington Beach has settled a discrimination lawsuit brought by a gay police officer who alleged his peers harassed him, including placing a gay escort ad in his locker, commenting that he only handles gay sex crimes and suggesting that he was infected with HIV.
Adam Bereki, 29, received a $150,000 lump sum payment to end his lawsuit as part of a settlement approved by the City Council in April, records show. He also will receive a monthly $4,000 disability payment for the rest of his life: A payout that could reach upward of $2.15 million.
