One year ago today, something amazing happened. For the first time in over a century, the Bolsa Chica Wetlands were reunited with the Pacific Ocean. And one year later, The Register takes a look at all the progress made.
So what do YOU think about all the progress made at the wetlands? Are you happy to see the tidal flow restored? Are you still worried about new housing developments encroaching upon the wetlands? Do you think we’re doing enough to protect the wetlands? And are you confident that this little wild stretch of the Orange Coast will be here for future generations to enjoy?
I remember when the wetlands reopened to the sea one year ago today, and I remember being so overjoyed that local environmentalists were finally enjoying the fruit of all their hard labor. But today, I am wondering whether I should still feel so overjoyed. There is still one more fight over one more proposed development at the wetlands. And oh yes, we must still ensure that the wetlands are maintained, and that none of these protected lands are ever reopened for development.
So enough of me talking, I’m ready to hear from YOU. So what do you think about Bolsa Chica, one year later? Go ahead. Make my day. Fire away! 🙂
There’s some great surf fishing to be had at the mouth of the inlet. That’s always a good thing for us anglers. I hear the surfing has improved around that spot too.
You’re probably right, Allan. A LOT of things have improved at Bolsa Chica in the last year. A few weeks ago, I went walking with my dad around the wetlands. It was just so breathtaking to see all the birds in their native habitat. For once, these birds can truly feel at home. Oh yes, and I’m sure many of them also like to fish!
Yep, good things are happening in Bolsa Chica… I just hope it stays this way. 🙂
