Senate Republican Leader Dick AckermanÂ’s office is reporting that he and Senate Democrat Leader Don Perata have reached a tentative deal on the state budget.
That’s what Brian Joseph is now reporting at The Register. We don’t yet know the details of the deal. We don’t yet know whether both the Democratic and Republican caucuses have agreed to this deal. We don’t even know yet if Arnold has signed onto this deal. All we know is that a tentative deal has been reached between the two Senate leaders.
So what does this mean? Again, we don’t know. All we can do is hope. We can hope that this deal does not include too many painful cuts to those most disadvantaged and those most in need. Oh yes, and we can hope that this deal is something that a 2/3 supermajority of the Legislature can agree to.
But once we know what this deal looks like, we’ll know what to do next. We’ll know whether to denounce it as a “raw deal” for working families or hail it as a “fair deal” for everyone. But until then, all we can do is wait… And hope that this is the beginning of the end of the state budget nightmare.
