Around South County…..

October 26, 2010 1

The battle is continuing. Unfortunately, unless one is a true political junkie, a Facebook fanatic or has the patience to dig through the 6th page of the Orange County Register, the only way one knows that an election is going on is through the battle of the signs.

Voices From Street Corners (Vol 8)

October 24, 2010 1

I began the week a bit hopeful despite a cold, damp and wet week. It sure was a wet one around South County. Towards the end of the week, it was really cool to see some sunshine after a long few days of rain. With the advent of sunshine, though, people again came out to make their case for help.

Obama Weekly Address: Letting Wall Street Run Wild

October 23, 2010 1

In this week’s address, President Obama called out the Republican leadership in Congress for vowing to repeal Wall Street reform, which will protect Americans from unfair practices in mortgage transactions and foreclosures. The Wall Street reform law also set new rules so that taxpayers will never again be on the hook for a bailout if a big financial company goes under, helps rein in the secret deals and reckless gambling that nearly brought the financial system down, and set up the strongest consumer protections in history. The special interests fought hard against reform, spending millions to preserve a system that worked better for them than for middle class families. October 11, 2010 3

On Saturday we saw a curious dance between Assemblyman Van Tran and First District Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen orchestrated by Orange County GOP leader Scott Baugh. In what appeared to be a hastily called press conference by Tran, Nguyen announced that she was supporting the endorsement by GOP leaders of Assemblyman Van Tran for the Congressional seat currently held by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. Even the press statement fired off after the photo-op, failed to include a single quote from Supervisor Nguyen.

Obama Weekly Address: Strengthening Education, Not Cutting It

October 9, 2010 1

In this week’s address, President Obama said that, even as we work to rebuild our economy and jumpstart job creation, it is imperative that we offer our children a quality education in order for America to succeed in the 21st century. While Republicans in Congress are looking to cut education funding by 20 percent, the President remains committed to enacting reforms that provide every child with a world-class education while at the same time equipping them with the skills and training they need to compete in the new global economy. The President will continue fighting for an education system that helps to build a strong middle class and gives our children the best possible chance in life.
