OCEA General Manager Nick Berardino challenged County CEO Tom Mauk to a debate about executive compensation during the County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. Berardino also called for Supervisors to start paying for their pensions during a discussion about whether Supervisors should move toward a defined contribution retirement plan.
Norberto Santana, Jr. over at Voice of OC reports that County CEO Tom Mauk and the Orange County Attorneys’ Association are having a bit of a dust up over their deferred raises that Mauk ordered not be included in the 2010-2011 county budget approved last month. Last year, Mauk’s managers kept their deferred raises.
On April 20, 2010 the Orange County Board of Supervisors directed the CEO to review the acquisition of a building at 433 W. Civic Center Drive for use by the Clerk-Recorder for the County Archives program. Supervisor Moorlach was concerned that all relevant information was not provided to the Board before it approved the purchase.
An IT Working Group, which had been chaired by Supervisor Janet Nguyen, was disbanded in 2008 just as it was starting to uncover these very contract issues. While the task force was being stonewalled by Mauk and Ajmani, Mauk recommended it be disbanded. Now it looks like we know why.
