It was a bit of a cold and damp week in South County. As always, though, there was a lot going on. As I was about town, I got a chance to talk to a few of the regulars on Street Corners. The old Veteran was at his old station continuing to ask for help. When I went up to talk to him and asked him how things were, his only comment to me was, “the man up there will take care of things…”. I wanted to again ask whether he had gone up to the One Stop Center. I also told him about a Security Job Opportunity that I saw that he could potentially qualify for.

Van Tran’s elusive Vietnamese support prompts ‘Peace’ with Supervisor Janet Nguyen

On Saturday we saw a curious dance between Assemblyman Van Tran and First District Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen orchestrated by Orange County GOP leader Scott Baugh. In what appeared to be a hastily called press conference by Tran, Nguyen announced that she was supporting the endorsement by GOP leaders of Assemblyman Van Tran for the Congressional seat currently held by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. Even the press statement fired off after the photo-op, failed to include a single quote from Supervisor Nguyen.

California Assembly Approves Plan to Close Budget Deficit

“This budget means hundreds of thousands of teachers, cops, firefighters, child care providers, health care workers and private business owners will keep working and contributing to our economic recovery,” Pérez said. “We maintain education funding because a well-educated workforce is essential to California’s future prosperity. We set aside $30 million to help small businesses grow and thrive by freeing up access to the capital that will help them expand and hire new employees. We protect public safety and we reject economically hurtful tax increases on California’s working families.”
