Santa Ana Council member Carlos Bustamante and Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez are expected to appear in separate Superior Court rooms today. Councilman Carlos Bustamante faces the continuation of his arraignment on sexual assault and false imprisonment charges in criminal court. Alvarez is joining the the suit by city commissioner Max Madrid to require the Santa Ana City Clerk to provide Alvarez with nomination paperwork to seek another term on the City Council.

Anaheim: A Not So Happy Place

At 9 p.m. officers ordered protesters in Anaheim to disburse, declaring an unlawful assembly. Soon after, police started firing pepper-spray bullets at the feet of protectors, as well as bean-bag projectiles into the crowds. In response, some protesters began to vandalize public and private property including breaking out the windows of a near by Starbucks.

The California Office of the League of United Latin American Citizens is calling for a federal inquiry into an officer involved shooting (OIS) in the City of Anaheim this past Friday, the sixth such occurrence this year.

Take Back Anaheim has called for a protest rally outside Anaheim City Hall for 4 p.m. today to demand justice and accountability in the wake of the shooting of Manuel Angel Diaz on Saturday afternoon. Diaz was unarmed when he was shot twice by police.

Suit filed to compel release of Assistant CEO Drakodaidis letter

The Voice of OC filed a lawsuit today asking the Orange County Superior Court to compel the County of Orange to release the letter received by the county from the attorney for Assistant CEO Alisa Drakodaidis. Californians Aware, the Center for Public Forum Rights, is joining Voice of OC in the suit.
