It’s Independence Day but in light of recent Supreme Court rulings, it’s hard to celebrate “freedom” when we’ve taken some major steps backwards.
Guns have more rights than women or the environment. School prayer may make a return from the 1950s. There’s chatter that marriage equality is at risk. And taxpayers might actually fund private schools that have the ability to discriminate against students who aren’t white, Christian and straight.
While so many voters are pointing a finger at inaction by President Biden and the Democrats in Congress, a reminder that they face opposition to every good idea from the Republicans who still think January 6 was “lawful political discourse.”
I’ve decided to fly the US flag at my home anyway.
We have to fight back and the best way to do this is to retain and expanded majorities in the House and Senate. We have to retain and expand majorities in the State Assembly and State Senate. We need to elect more Democrats to county government, city government and school boards.
