The Orange County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation is a foundation that has not raised a dollar for anything, until now. The Liberal OC has learned that the group received $600,000 to the “Yes on B” signs and mailers as well as the “yes on B,C, and D” signed populating Irvine. The two funny elements are “Real Veterans Support B’ even though John Scott Horner II has been outed as a stolen valor fraud. And the “protect Irvine from Special Interests” populates the No on B. C and D signs when it really means “protect Five Point from those who threaten its takeover of public land for private profit.
Here are the reports:
The developer has ponied up $600,000 for the initial signage effort against Measure B. We will continue to monitor what they spend, but they are likely to spend even more to ensure they get the land swap and all the entitlements that come with it.
Time for some fact checking:
Measure B proponents say if the vote goes against them, there will be no veterans cemetery; this is hogwash. Legislators who win the June primary will race to claim a Veteran’s cemetery where Irvine voters decide, especially in ARDA.
The ARDA site is not a toxic cesspool; yes, there is a spot that needs extra attention but they put a high school and a number of homes near the site; how bad could it really be?
Measure B creates no new traffic or no new development? I call bullshit. Fully developed, ARDA for FivePoint creates 10,000 new car trips a day in Northwood on Jeffrey, Sand Canyon, Portola Parkway and Irvine Blvd. No getting around it. No new development? I call bullshit. The current council majority approves anything FivePoint wants. There will be new development; so the flier passed around at DPOC by Craig Norris is dishonest as the day is long.
Irvine voters want a Veterans cemetery and memorial; but we want to choose where it goes. There are a number of Veterans who do not want it on the freeway site. It’s that simple.
As for “Real Veterans Support Measure B” does this include “veterans” like John Scott Horner III who was outed as an Internet troll who never served in the army as he said he did? No mention of “stolen valor” from OCVMP’s Bill Cook because that might mean he’d have to admonish someone who lied to him. It’s sort of pathetic that the Yes of B people have to rely on catfishing to create a sense of momentum; NextDoor.com has lots of “No on B” responses from real neighbors.
While the executive board of the DPOC was unianimous in its support for Measure B, than rank and file of the Central Committee was not. With the exception of Melissa Fox, the Central Committee members from Irvine were solid “no” votes. The opposition came within one vote of no endorsement. More important, the Democrats of Greater Irvine, a club affiliated with DPOC, voted to stay neutral on the issue of Measure B, preferring to let Voters decide the issue. So you will see a lot of “broad bi-partisan support” for Measure B on social media site…just dig a little deeper and you’ll realize Measure B isn’t the home run the pro Measure B people say it is.
A press release issued by VALOR, a new Veteran’s Group, and FivePoint, actually made me giggle. This quote from FivePoint’s Emile Haddad:
Emile Haddad, CEO of FivePoint, agreed with Berardino saying, “Our veterans have been used as political pawns by politicians every election cycle. We are honored to stand alongside VALOR and all of the Veterans of Orange County to get this Cemetery built once and for all.”
I guess Haddad forgot all his efforts to kill the cemetery when it was first proposed. And how he’s using Vets as pawns now. Irvine Council member Christina Shea and then Mayor Steven Choi did everything they could to find some alternative site.
And there’s this quote from VALOR president Nick Bernardino:
VALOR President Nick Berardino said, “In addition to widespread support from veterans, Measure B has broad community backing from leaders in both the local Democratic and Republican parties. Measure B brings a veteran’s cemetery to Irvine, away from homes, without costing Irvine taxpayers a dime and without adding any new traffic or development that hasn’t already been planned. Be warned that the cemetery opponents will spare no trick or political charade in their efforts to deny veterans a place to rest.”
Some clarity for Nick — the ARDA site demolition wouldn’t have cost Taxpayers anymore than the Freeway site. And freeway site Proponents will spare no trick or political charade in their efforts to reward a developer. See the post on John Scott Horner III for proof of that.
And JHSIII found his way into an OJ Blog comment last July; given many people have guessed who this person actually is, read this comment with that spirit in mind:
John Scott Horner
Poor old Gail Lewis is apparently one of those so brainwashed by Larry Agran over so many years that she has lost all sense of perspective and right and wrong. Melissa didn’t vote to enrich anyone — voted for the best interests of both the veterans and Irvine’s taxpayers. As far as traffic is concerned, Fox voted against moving forward with the Irvine Company’s proposed 1900 unit apartment complex on Sand Canyon — which Agran’s new best friends Jeffrey Lalloway and Lynn Schott both approved. In fact, it is striking that Agran never attacks the Irvine Company — which is responsible for more than 75% of the residential growth in Irvine. Why is that? Hmmm . . . Is Agran on the Irvine Company’s secret payroll? Is that how he pays for his fake newspaper? As the article points out, Agran has been a dictator in Irvine too long, sucking up to developers like the Irvine Company when it suits his purposes and punishing anyone, especially Democrats, who dared to disagree with him. Agran just about killed the Democratic Party in Irvine. Melissa Fox is a breathe of progressive fresh air!
I’ll note that a significant number of those apartments on Sand Canyon were designated for affordable housing. FivePoint didn’t like the deal.
The signs that say vote Yes of B, C and D to “protect Irvine from special interests” ought to read “to protect Five Point interests over those from Irvine who don’t agree.”
How much more will FivePoint/Heritage Fields spend to buy this election? I’m guessing a lot.
I know Ed Garza feels strongly on this issue. He is a Vietnam Vet, and has been supporting Veterans For Peace and other related organizations for a very long time. He doesn’t want the cemetery near the freeway.
One of my friends at DPOC, had an interesting convo, regarding the ever slippery Irvine couple.
This blog came up:
Michael Fox

Actually, the lowest of the low are people like “Alan” who hide behind online anonymity while insulting others, especially others who put themselves on the front line by taking public positions on controversial issues — in other words, real leaders.
Lowest of the low John Horner III.
What would Jeff LeTournueu say?
No one has said a thing yet. A denial strikes me as dishonest. The consensus of the emails I’ve gotten from the posts suggests everyone thinks it’s Michael Fox; one is certain Melissa was fully aware of his activities. There’s no way to know the truth for sure.
But I’m certain she’s lost a lot of support from those who were on the fence about her because of this. Its creepy to block someone on Facebook and create a new identity and friend those you blocked to monitor activity. I have to wonder how many catfishing accounts might exist out there.
So Mike/Michelle, we KNOW you read this blog, we know you are reading this.
Michael Fox/Michelle Fox:
1) Have you EVER posted on social media using another name than your own?
2) Did you FALSELY identify yourself as John Horner?
3) What is your position on people using FAKE information to propagate information?
Mr & Mrs. Fox, there is no hope you will be HONEST, TRANSPARENT OR HUMBLE regarding this, but, should you find your way, please feel free to answer.
ARE YOU JOHN HORNER III?
an LA Times staffer retweeted this story yesterday to 12,600 followers; the number of shares of this story jumped dramatically yesterday
The only way to save Irvine from Five Point, Emile Haddad, Melissa and Michael Fox and complete corruption is to vote NO on Measure B.
Need to Vote NO on D as well!! Who wants to give away their right to Vote to the development community???!!!
Measure D is about protecting Developers from Special Interests, not Irvine
John Horner has a colleague in the suddenly “verbose” Donovan next door.
For a gang that that throw stones, they don’t catch well.
I am told “Donovan” is the brain damaged activist Mark Daniels. I don’t know the details of his injury, but watching his inability to string two sentences together at council and his retention of “Crazy Greg” is pretty clear evidence of his handicap.
Diamond has a history of manipulating the feeble (Cynthia Ward, Brian Chachua, Vern Nelson etc…).
This is most evidenced, by “Donovan’s” defense of Phil Jancowitcz, Let’s be clear: Phil lost the support of the crowd, when his campaign manager sent a picture of JESUS CHRIST BUTT F*&KING MILEY CYRUS! This was one of TEN such messages Erik Taylor sent.
Phil is crawling back into good graces, through the most forgiving of the party: Fran, LeTourneu, Farrah etc…. The reality is he is a man of poor character, who used poor judgement with Erik.
Donovan is to Mark Daniels what John Horner is to Mike Fox!
I’m not so sure “Donovan” is Mark. Mark does comment under his own name regularly. But I don’t believe for a minute he’s paid a dime to Mr. Diamond for the lawsuit to keep Lenore Albert off the ballot.
I’m not Mark, haven’t met him or Vern yet, hope to change that. Happy to meet anyone honestly interested in challenging the status quo in the OC. I do read Samuels and Walter as requiring precisely the opposite outcome as how Judge Griffin ruled, but it’s been a while since I practiced election law.
As for Janowicz, I met him several times, liked what I saw in him. I’ve had friends and disciplined employees for sending emails they shouldn’t have: sane adults do not think such things in isolation define people, and a puerile fascination with the content of such emails by people fired months ago suggests an unbalanced, unfair mind.
Did I say you were Mark? So you know, I’m a free speech advocate and pretty much allow people to say what they want here…including, you like, behind a shield of anonymity. Use a full name and I’ll take you more seriously
Donovan, someone suggested I see a comment you left on OJ about how you left your real email address here? C’mon, you know that’s a lie right? If you want to take the high road, actually try driving on it instead of talking about it.
Dan – whoever suggested that either (1) lacks reading comprehension, or (2) is a liar. Either way, one should be careful who one trusts.

LOL. I threw a ‘how do you do’ introduction over there, just to see what might happen. If they actually show civility and decency (as many here have shown), *****I’ll use my real email as well.**** Not trying to be shy, but some folks merit engaging with, others are a waste of time. I have made up my mind about you, but not them.
First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is.
I’m looking at the email addresses you posted; of course, they are fake. Let’s not pretend there’s a reading comprehension issue. You said you’d do something and did not. I see several comments from you via your IP address. I’m not outing it, as I out no one’s but it is dishonest to claim you’ll use your real email and choose not to do so; have a great weekend.
Donovan, I’ll show you every civility; I cannot control what commenters say or be responsible for how they treat you.
So let’s see if I got this straight, a guy using a “handle” Donovan, suddenly shows up out of nowhere, his long rambling intellectually challenged quips almost ALWAYS side with and support Greg Diamond (uneard of in the history of EARTH), he claims to be “New” to Orange County, but also has “Met” several of the candidates for office. He despite being “New” here admits to lurking around the LOC for a while now…….. all of this as “John Horner” and “Henry Lipton” get exposed, oh yeah, he right away seeks to buddy up with Ricardo Toro.
Using a FAKE EMAIL address he shouts out about his intended integrity.
What’s suspicious about this??
Censoring comments again? Hahaha!
Actually, no. Did you have a comment that didn’t appear? Maybe it went to spam or maybe you did something wrong. I pretty much post everything
Sounds like a decent guy. Won’t posting here, I’ll bet.
Hahaha!
If you’re referring to me, Mr. 4th, well, I’ll post anywhere. I am mostly interested in meeting all the players in this crazy game that is the OC, and choosing sides based on what I see and where I think it worthwhile. I am attracted by evidence of decency. Someone here shows precisely the opposite character.
People here seem to have some disturbing issues that are given free rein. If you find anything worthwhile here please alert the real media.
Donovan, why not just use your real name?
David: I do actually use my name, just not all of it. I see no need to make things easy for lazy trolls; those with a little creativity can verify my identity rather easily.
Dan: name a time and place, I’ll be pleased to make your acquaintance. I’m suspicious of folks I don’t yet know, but still willing to make new friends, and the possibility that you and Greg have grudges against one another does not control my own judgment. That said, I actually like what I’ve seen of his crew: they have some crazies of their own, but they’re polite crazies who at least haven’t spread rumors based on complete ignorance (at least, not that I’ve seen yet – and when I do see it, I do not hesitate to chastise if there’s evidence the perpetrator is anything better than a troll).
