We received this note from Anaheim’s Jordan Brandman late yesterday afternoon:
It was an honor to faithfully represent all Anaheim residents as an Anaheim Union High School District Trustee and as a City Council Member for eight years. Now I write to you as a concerned neighbor who cares deeply about the direction our great city is taking, and the impact City Hall has on our neighborhoods. Our city is at a crossroads and faces real challenges that the current council has neglected to address.
That’s why I am running for election this November to City Council in District 2. It encompasses the heart of West Anaheim – the Loara, Magnolia, Savanna, and Servite High School neighborhoods between Euclid and Magnolia Streets. Our neighborhoods have borne the brunt of misguided city leadership, and it’s time that one of us stand up for our community.
Together, we can mitigate homelessness in a compassionate and effective manner, make our neighborhoods safer, and continue to make West Anaheim a community of opportunity and real quality of life.
West Anaheim deserves better. With your support, we can make that happen.
Please join me at our campaign kick-off reception on Tuesday, May 29th, 5:30 p.m., at Mama Cozza’s. Additional event details can be seen in your invitation below. RSVP by replying to this email or by visiting jordanbrandman.com, where you can also learn about my vision for our community.
As Brandman will challenge incumbent Republican James Vanderbilt, Third District council member Jose Moreno must be breathing a small sigh of relief. Moreno beat Brandman by about 75 votes in the city’s most Latino District in a presidential year when Latino voters usually have a high turnout. Moreno drew the short straw and is up for re-election this fall, and will have to work very hard to get the same sort of voter turnout in district 3 in what is a midterm election year.
Vanderbilt, who consistently would provide a “second” for most any council member motions for discussion purposes or to place the motion before the council for a vote, would not give Moreno a second for a Gay Pride flag motion that failed for lack of a second.
Rather than blame Vanderbilt for his lack of action, DPOC North County vice chair Jeff LeTourneau went after Council member Kris Murray alone for a failure to second Moreno’s motion and called for her to resign. LeTourneau issued no calls for Vanderbilt’s resignation as LeTourneau has generally been supportive of Mayor Tom Tait’s council majority. I’ll be curious to see if Moreno and LeTourneau endorse Brandman over Vanderbilt.
“Now I write to you as a concerned neighbor…”
Haha. A neighbor who is renting out his house in the 3rd District until he loses to Vanderbilt.
Brandman couldn’t beat an old rug.
Brandman’s already won two school board elections and one city council election. Don’t underestimate him
Brandman, the perennial candidate, who did his best to disenfranchise Latinos voters in Anaheim, might do well in a deeply red city that voted for Trump, but not Anaheim.
Maybe Assembly member Daly can pay him $30k to copy & paste a housing report from Wikipedia to help Brandman pays his bills.
