California AG and US Senate candidate Kamala Harris has announced a handful of Orange County Democratic endorsements leading up to Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez’s anticipated announcement and this weekend’s Democratic Party convention.
Laguna Beach Councilwoman Toni Iseman, Huntington Beach Mayor Jill Hardy; Fullerton Councilwoman Jan Flory; La Palma Councilman Steve Shanahan; Laguna Woods Mayor Cynthia Conners; Buena Park Mayor Art Brown; Stanton Councilwoman Carol Warren; and Coast Community College District board President Lorraine Prinsky are all backing Harris for Senate. While there are folks here we have a lot of respect for, the heavy hitters in the Democratic Party aren’t on this list. For many, it’s the “waiting for Loretta” game to begin.
From the OC Register:
“I’m honored to receive the support of these Orange County leaders,” Harris said in an email. “Together, we are building a campaign that lifts up the voices of Californians in every community. I look forward to being in Anaheim for this weekend’s California Democratic Party convention and continuing to build a grassroots campaign that represents the entirety of our great state.”
Once Sanchez makes her expected announcement (and hopefully explains her lapse in judgment for saying she hadn’t decided on running for Senate two days ago while details were being executed on for today’s announcement), there will be a race to see who announces for her Congressional seat. Former state senator Lou Correa, former State Assemblyman Jose Solorio, State Rep. Tom Daly, former Santa Ana council member Claudia Alvarez, current Santa Ana council member Michele Martinez, former State Rep. Sharon Quirk-Silva, Anaheim council member Jordan Brandman, Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen and State Senator Janet Nguyen are the names we’re hearing frequently.
Any bets on who comes out of the gate first?
