Loretta Sanchez to launch Senate Bid Thursday

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez will formally announce her bid for US Senate tomorrow according to the Hill. Sanchez will announce her candidacy at the Santa Ana Train Station a day before the California Democratic Party Convention gets underway in Anaheim this weekend.

From the story:

Sanchez will announce her bid during a press conference at the Santa Ana Train Station, flanked by her husband, family and friends, according to The Sacramento Bee.
“Together we will win,” Sanchez wrote in an email to supporters, according to the Bee.
 
But Sanchez told a Los Angeles Times reporter the email was leaked unintentionally. “I have actually not made a decision. That is the truth,” she said, according to the reporter.
Sanchez launched a polling effort in late March to ascertain her candidacy for Senate.  There was widespread speculation last month she’d announce “any minute now” but it didn’t happen.  If she doesn’t announce before the state party convention in her own hometown, then a candidacy is probably not in the cards.
In her favor, Sanchez is a political moderate with an impressive background with the House Armed Services committee and the Homeland Security committee — an area her opponent Kamala Harris, California’s AG, lacks.  And her socially liberal but fiscally conservative stance will play well with the state’s Republicans who might view Harris as too liberal.  Where Sanchez is lacking is name recognition in Northern California and she’s way behind in fundraising having less onhand for a Senate race that Harris does.
That all said, Sanchez has been underestimated before — just ask Bob Dornan and Van Tran.

    ABC 7 covered this and had pictures with P. David Benavides and Michele Martinez by her side. If I worked for Kami, I would POUNCE on that right away: GUILT BY ASSOCIATION!!!

    Good Luck Loretta, there will always be a position for you as an assistant deputy of Veterans Affairs in a Hillary administration or some equally unimportant position.

    Smart career move, if she does it.

    • David — David Benevides is one of the more principled members of the Santa Ana City Council and Michele has been a Loretta protégé for years. Loretta has nothing to fear being associated with either of them.

      • We’ll have to agree to disagree on Benavides, I don’t have much respect for him.

        It will certainly make Loretta’s Mambo & Margarita happy hour more interesting on Saturday!
        And with so many of the events sponsored by the building trades, it’s going to tough for Diamond to get free drinks!

    • I’m not a Democrat; but I would vote for Loretta because she is against “fast-track” and the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Republicans should also vote for her. Visit both of their websites at http://www.politics1.com. Loretta’s anti TPP op-ed link is on her website “Jobs and Economy”.

  2. Rep. Loretta Sanchez says she has made no decision about whether to jump into the California Senate race to replace Sen. Barbara Boxer, despite a leaked draft announcement obtained by POLITICO saying she would enter the race Thursday.

  3. well, if there’s a document to supporters making the rounds, it’s likely an announcement is in the works.

    If she doesn’t announce before or during this weekend’s convention, I think she’s waited too long. She should stay and run for Congress.

      • Junior — I am bothered that Loretta apparently lied to the LA Times reporter about the event in denying she hadn’t made the decision. That was a mistake and one she should own up to. I don’t believe that she hadn’t made the decision when it was apparent the decision was made.

        As far as Vern at OJB taking credit for breaking a story we broke 24 hours earlier, it must be the booze talking. I love how Vern constantly complains no one is talking to him while everyone talks to us.

  6. Cut the crap you guy. It’s becoming beauty parlor time around here. This griping is expected from Greg Diamond but not from you two.
    Clearly there are a lot of “intra-party” fights that us mere voters and supporters aren’t supposed to know about, which can only be explained by the exiled official, but I say BS. Let Loretta run, trip, fall, get up and run again if that’s what it takes.
