Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer lied on national television Monday about the so called “need” to layoff 213 Costa Mesa city workers. Righeimer was interviewed on Fox News and was asked whether the decision to layoff employees was forced or a choice. He answered by claiming that the layoffs were necessary because the city pension liabilities awarded by previous contract agreements were unsustainable.

Mayor Gary “Pinocchio” Monahan released a statement on Friday in which he characterized the pictures of him celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and posing for photos at his bar in Costa Mesa as the union taking dispicable advantage of this tragic situation to further their agenda. Monahan continues, “Had I known what had transpired I would never have agreed to pose for photos or engage in any revelry.

In light of the efforts of the City of Costa Mesa to sell off our core government services piece by piece to the lowest bidder and cast off our dedicated public employees, I’ve got to wonder when people are going to wake up and see what these Robber Barons are trying to do to our country.

TheLiberalOC has learned that the consulting firm Management Partners, which currently has a contract with Santa Ana to work on budget issues, will be expanding its role to assisting retirning City Manager Dave Ream with day to day operations.

The Costa Mesa City Employees’ Association (CMCEA) is deeply saddened by the recent loss of one its members. Huy Pham, a 29-year old maintenance worker for the City of Costa Mesa, was tragically killed as a result of a suicide on March 17, 2011 when he jumped off the roof of City Hall shortly before 3:30 p.m. Pham was employed with the city for four and a half years before his death, and is remembered by many of his colleagues as a hard-working and talented employee who always had a smile on his face.
