TUSTIN — Tustin Mayor Jerry Amante, through his spokesperson, has reached out to TheLiberalOC and our readers with this statement, which we promised to published as sent to us.

“The City Council met in closed session for a total of over 2.5 hours discussing David Biggs’ relationship with the Council, an activity that is clearly permitted under the Brown Act.   At the end of these discussions, as reported out when the Council reconvened, the Council voted to issue a notice of intent to terminate Mr. Biggs from his position, provide him notice of his right to a hearing if he so desires, and to suspend him from his duties.  This is a pending personnel matter and it is not appropriate for any member of the City Council to make any comments regarding Mr. Biggs and the actions of the City Council beyond the statements contained in the Notice of Intent as issued Tuesday evening.  The City and Mr. Biggs each have rights with respect to the pending matter and it is inappropriate for any Councilmember to make any comments which may affect the rights of Mr. Biggs or the taxpayers. Each member of the City Council was so advised and should be refraining from public comment.” — Tustin Mayor Jerry Amante.

That said, the item on the council’s agenda and the subsequent notice of termination do not synch up Mr. Mayor.

  1. Boss Tweed Amante continues to rule his fiefdom with an iron hand over the city council. While he is correct in his interpretation of the rules regarding confidentiality, his heavy hand is all over this termination. It does not take much imagination to figure who the dissenting votes were on the 3-2 split to terminate Biggs. It also shows that it did not take long for Tustin’s newest councilman, Al Murray to join the Boss’ other puppet John Nielsen in running the council. Its a good thing the council only has 5 members. Jerry only has two hands to stick up the ass of his cronies. Of course, he’s been sticking it to the citizens of Tustin for years. It will be refreshing to see what this city is capable of when the “Boss” and his party machine depart.

    • I’ve heard talk around town that a recall movement is in the works! Please, if anyone has a info about this please post it here so the word can be spread. Amante is in office until November 2012–that is way too long and too much time for him to do more damage! Get him out now and return the council majority to sanity and undo all of the damage Amante has done- we do not need his puppets Nielsen or Murray as future mayors or in a postion of power!

    • Boss Amante has always said he was always concerned about the taxpayer. Yet he has no problem in spending $187,000 in tax payers’ monies to pay for the city manager’s dismissal, even though he and Mr. Nielsen had voted for this guy, less than 5 months ago. When will the residents of Tustin recall this autocrat who has cost us taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars?

  2. “.. the council’s agenda and the subsequent notice of termination do not synch up Mr. Mayor.”

How do these things not sync up Dan?

  3. What is going on in our city? Has anyone told us why our brand new city manager is being terminated? what’s the reasoning? Where is the accountability? And if he’s terminated, does he get a severance package? Who pays for that? Us, the Tustin taxpayers? Will that money be taken out of the local budget?

  4. This so-called conservative tax fighter Jerry Amante is costing the city of Tustin hundreds of thousands of dollars, both in his inability to get along with his newly hired city manager, and his over-use of the city attorneys by tripling our legal bills in the last 5 years. What is going on here? Wake up citizens of Tustin, you are being hosed by 3 “conservative” guys ruling the city council, all being led by Mayor Amante. Remember this when John Nielsen reruns for election in November 2012. He is going along with all of this!
