Irvine City Council candidate Jeff Lalloway is the subject of one of the nastiest pieces of mail I’ve ever seen thrown at a conservative candidate for office in Irvine; and if the charges made in the mailer and the website are true, then a 4-1 Democratic majority looks more likely in Irvine after election day.
The website www.caseagainstjeff.com claims Jeff Lalloway defaulted on student loans to the tune of $2,000 to a Philadephia woman and owes $62,000 to the New Jersey Higher Education Assistance Authority. The site says New Jersey officials filed court documents stating that Lalloway “concealed his whereabouts or by other means obstructed or prevented service of the judgment against him.” The mailer says the sheriff of Philadelphia County was authorized by the courts to seize and sell all contents of the defendent’s residence. The filings are between 13 and 23 years old.
The website claims Lalloway inflated his credentials in the US Attorney’s office in Philadelphia, cheated taxpayers and friends, filed misleading ballot statements, and, as a member of the Irvine Finance Commission, cast a number of votes against Irvine schools, programs for seniors, programs for police and fire safety, funding for youth sports and parks, funding roads and infrastructure improvements. The site makes the claim that Lalloway voted “against every expenditure our city government makes.” Note our our Republican and Libertarian friends — not every government expenditure is wasteful spending.
Impressively, the site is well documented to back up its claims.
In spite of this, my biggest criticism of Lalloway is the $5 million gift to IUSD he wants to make this year to pander to Irvine parents. To which I say, why not offer the entire $22 million the district is short this year? And what about next year or the next? Lalloway will not support a parcel tax whcih has majority voter support in Irvine but not enough to overcome the two-third hurdle needed to make it a reality.
Frankly, with the hit pieces and websites that take so much low blows against Mayor Kang, Beth Krom, Larry Agran, Shiva Farivar and Todd Gallinger (from 2008), I’m actually delighted someone decided to hit back and hard with this mailer.
Let’s see how Mr. Lalloway responds to the charges in the mailer and the website.
Total Buzz carried this comment from Lalloway:
“In response, Lalloway said: “Public employee unions are funding this smear campaign against me and spending thousand of dollars trying to discredit me. They’re using lies, half-truths and just plain making things up. As Irvine finance commissioner, I’ve asked tough questions at City Hall, they know I will hold the public employee unions accountable and cut their bloated salaries and out of control pensions that are destroying our city and state.â€
Lalloway declined to confirm or deny the allegations that he defaulted on loans.”
No evidence of public employees funding anything and he refused to confirm or deny..hmmmm. If it’s not true, deny it.
Q. Which Irvine City Council candidate has been arrested?
A. Larry Agran
Statute of limitations is out on that one counselor; Agran was arrested for disorderly conduct for not being allowed to debate despite meeting all the criteria for a presidential candidate.
And this was 18 years ago. If you’d like, we can revisit Choi’s voter fraud lawsuit and Shea’s daughter’s arrest as both of those have the same weight in this election as that 1992 charge against Larry.
The statute of limitations is not the point, Choi and Shea are not running this time, and the arrest was conduct by Agran after becoming elected to public office. Lalloway defaulted on a student loan right after college. Lalloway was not placed in handcuffs and did not have a booking photo taken. LarryAgranARRESTED.com
Weak. Lalloway was sued and the sherriff was ordered to seize his assets. Which public employees union is funding this hit site counselor? How about some proof before an accusation is raised.
Pretty interesting remark from Lalloway given that he sought both police and fire union endorsements.
Dan, stop pretending to be naive, this attack on Lalloway is nothing but simple hardball politics, Larry Agran style. This is exactly what Agran does to people who cross him, or look like a threat in an election. I guess this means that Agran sees Lalloway as a threat. Before you deny such actions, one only need look back at what was done to Dave Christensen, Chris Mears and Christina Shea among others. I warned Lalloway about the possibility of such attacks from Agran, before we stopped speaking and he lost my support.
Now I don’t know who researched the information on Lalloway and haven’t seen the website you referenced, but I can tell Lalloway it wasn’t the unions. Frankly, they are not that smart, nor do any of them have the male body parts required for such an action. I have no doubt in my mind that it was Agranista inspired and directed. The beautiful 8 x 11 glossy slate mailer I received covering the same allegations was sent by none other than, you guessed it, “Voter Assistance Guide.” You are familiar with them I am sure, as they are laundering all of the Agranista campaign contributions through the two Irvine Measures put on the ballot for that purpose. Let’s not feint shock or surprise here Dan, it’s just the way Agran plays and wins the game. I expect to see at least one or two more such hate mailers before the election, painting Lalloway as the “great horned Satan.”
Now having said that, let me add my other 2 cents worth. Lalloway being a pseudo conservative, has conducted with the help of henchman, Adam Probolsky an unwarranted attack on one of the other Republican candidates, Lynn Schott. They say, “what goes around, comes around” and I chuckle to see Lalloway get his just due. While I bashed him as you did for pandering to the School District, the same thing can be said for the Agranista candidates. In the end, when the Agranistas have burned through the City Reserves and there is nothing left to use to balance their deficit budgets, staff and services will have to be cut. When people ask why, the wasteful spending habits of the Council majority including the gifts to the School District will be brought into the daylight. As they say, “Just another day in paradise.”
Pat —
For someone who hasn’t seen the website and the documents against Mr. Lalloway, it seems like you have already made up your mind.
To suggest union members are not smart is offensive and you should apologize. No one would ever say that about a whole group of people — cops, for example, are very smart and are good at solving crime.
When the Lincoln club stays out of Irvine elections, then IEs against conseravtives will too.
Please point out what in the flier or the website against Mr. Lalloway is inaccurate.
