ANAHEIM, CA – (August 31, 2010) – State Senator Lou Correa has endorsed John Leos for Anaheim City Council. Currently serving the 34th District and seeking re-election this November, Senator Correa has served previously on the Orange County Board of Supervisors and as a state assemblyman.
Senator Correa is a tireless opponent of graffiti, blight, and the gang element it attracts and nurtures. About Mr. Leos, he says, I have worked with John to cut down on gang activity and eliminate graffiti in Anaheim, he is a proven leader for public safety.
During a recent gathering at Anaheims Pearson Park, Senator Correa pointed out the significance of having lived in Anaheim all his life, setting down deep roots, and the invaluable knowledge and insight that comes from knowing the city and its residents in such a deep way. He noted that this is true also about John Leos, in attendance, whose family first became residents in Anaheim over 90 years ago.
John Leos, although not a bureaucrat or business-as-usual politician, is the city council candidate who has real-world experience with pension reform. His vision for Anaheim includes providing taxpayers with transparency and accountabilityby auditing management ranks. If the voters in November honor him with a seat on the council, he will work to preserve and protect essential city services. He will also make sure residents know and see results of their hard-earned tax dollars being spent in Anaheim. Additionally, he will not compromise essential public services that jeopardize families and neighborhoods.

… and Leos is also a Republican, isn’t he?
So he endorsed two Republicans in Anaheim for the two seats; ultra conservative Gail Eastman and now Leo’s. There are Dem’s running for council in Anaheim for God’s sakes.
Pringle is using Anaheim as a puppy farm for producing conservatives – thanks for helping Lou. So much for being a liberal and a team player.
Leos is a Republican. So yes Lou has endorsed two Republicans. Maybe Lou has concluded that there is not a viable Democrat in that race.
bad conclusion.
Wait a minute. I know of a Dem candidate that is running for City Council in Anaheim that is “viableâ€. He’s put $100,000 of his own money into the campaign, has name recognition and has a solid following, and was endorsed by the OC Federation of Labor!
Furthermore, how does supporting a “viable†Republican help us Dems? How many Republican State Senators are endorsing Dem candidates for city councils here in OC do you think? And, who made Correa the “viable candidate†cop anyways? Hell the DPOC hasn’t even done endorsements for City Council races yet.
Correa’s actions are exactly why it is hard to get viable Dems to run for office here in OC – a primal animal instinct; eating your young.
Defend him if you wish. Correa’s actions speak volumes for who he is.
I am not defending his action, simply pointing out a possible reason. I have no inside information as to why he decided to endorse who he did.
Leos is THE labor candidate in Anaheim. He received the unanimous endorsement of the Orange County Labor Federation. Perhaps the Dems understanding of labor is indicated by your inability to even get the name of the Labor Federation correct.
Hey Torta. Labor Fed, Central Labor Council, Federation of Labor; what ever. The fact is Correa is stepping on Dems by endorsing Republicans.
And, since you seem to have such a great understanding of organized labor in OC, perhaps you should get your facts straight. Leos is not THE only endorsed candidate by the ORANGE COUNTY FEDERATION OF LABOR, Bill Dalati was also endorsed – oh, and he is a Democrat.
My issue isn’t with Leos, I heard him speak at an event the other day; seems like a good guy – perhaps someday he’ll see the light and become a Dem. Correa (a leader in the party) crapping on Dems is the issue.
You added the “only”, not me. “THE” implies a certain level of support. You can have many girlfriends and then you have THE one. And you make a great point. There is a Dem on the Anaheim City Council. Who did she endorse when Correa was running for the 34th? Let me know when the DPOC becomes a viable political entity in Orange County.
Leo: Can you please explain exactly what it is that makes Gail Eastman an “ultra conservative”? Because frankly, she’s always seemed like a pretty innocuous good-government type to me, and I’ve tended to regard charges to the contrary as leftover chaff thrown up during Lorri Galloway’s scorched-earth campaign in 2008. If there’s some actual substance there, I’d like to know.
Torta,
Your premise is what? I got screwed, so that gives me a reason to screw someone else? Impressive.
You want to throw a wet blanket on the DPOC, knock yourself out. For the most part, based on the lack luster performance of the past, it may be well deserved. How does having Correa endorsing two Republicans over an OC Labor Fed endorsed Democratic make anything better? His actions simply exacerbate the dysfunction we as liberals have faced here in OC. No matter how many girl friends you may have, if you treat them poorly, they’ll leave you. Even if she is THE one.
Also – and maybe it’s just me – but I would have found out why Lou was endorsing a Republican over two Democrats before posting this thing.
It’s just you Vern. The day I take journalism advice from you will be the day I stop writing.
Jose Solorio also endorsed John Leos according to his facebook on August 27: “Jose Solorio – John Leos is a strong pro-jobs, pro-public safety candidate. I’m proud to endorse him for the Anaheim City Council. Having served on a City Council myself, I know that John has the leadership skills and genuine interest to serve all Anaheim neighborhoods well.
