Longshot Republican challenger Quang Pham has dropped out of the race for the CD-47 congressional seat now held by Rep. Loretta Sanchez according to the TotalBuzz blog. Pham failed to capture the CRA endorsement, losing to Assemblyman Van Tran, and Pham’s departure spares Tran an expensive and potentially embarrassing primary fight.Â
Update: Hat tip to R. Scott Moxley of OC Weekly for breaking this story an hour after Marty posted it to Total Buzz. Because, God forbid, we slight OC Weekly in any way.
Pham told Total Buzz lucrative business opportunities basically made it impossible to move forward in the race.Â
Pham poured more than $200,000 of his own money in the race and recently announced he was enrolled in the GOP’s “Young Guns” program. Pham tells Marty Wisckoll he wasn’t pressured into dropping out.
For Democrats who dominate the district, it’s pretty easy. Loretta versus Van Tran, who’s running on Bob Dornan’s coattails against the “Gay and Lesbian agenda” which I think means he’s against equal rights. Tan Nguyen really doesn’t have a prayer. It’s going to be fun.
Dan: Scott broke this an hour before the Register did.
Loretta’s still cooked. Especially if she supports Obamacare.
Gustavo — I didn’t say Marty broke the story, but I did attribute the post to his story. I’m sorry if you felt the Weekly was slighted in any way
That’s as weasel an excuse to not credit the Weekly as I’ve heard since the days of Tonnie Katz. Very well…
I didn’t see the Weekly story until you mentioned it; I saw Marty’s first. The Weekly story got pushed down past the Tweets from the Park feature. When you post multiple blog posts in a short period of time, the cream sometimes sinks to the bottom instead of rising to the top.
As far as my response being a “weasel excuse” it’s not. It’s the truth. And I’m not your monkey.
The OC GOP Central Committee doesn’t endorse in primaries. Van Tran received the CRA endorsement. A big distinction Dan.
thanks Allan; I’ll make the adjustment
Gustavo — for what it’s worth, Chris Prevatt got the press release the same time Moxley did. So much for breaking the news…..
The best investigative reporter in OC, S. Moxley, broke the story first. He also saw and wrote about the CRA shameless voting for Tran too. He is on the streets instead of relying on other media sources or posting links from other sites. Sanchez would rather face Tran any day as Pham had more cash on hand according to fec reports and Tran finished third in recent pollings.
Gustavo,
It is a bit of a reach to accuse Dan of slighting OC Weekly or Scott. We credit where we happen to see a story first whenever we pick it up from another publication.
We regularly credit OC Weekly on the news you folks break. When I do not have the time to post something that I get through the OC Weekly Twitter feed, at a minimum I retweet it.
We also run the OC Weekly Navel Gazing feed along with Total Buzz. Bottom line, you get credit there as a matter of course.
Unlike the Weekly that has paid reporters, we don’t. We do the best we can.
This is not a Weasel answer, simply reality.
