The man those on the right love to hate is celebrating a birthday today. Democrats who support him are sometimes accused of “blind loyalty” but it’s hardly the case. I met Larry Agran in 1998 when he was touting the Millenium Plan and a commercial airport at El Toro was still a very real possibility. Being new to Irvine, I introduced myself and asked him a number of pointed questions since the runways were less than two miles from my driveway. He was patient. He listened. And he answered every question.Â
When I read stories about Larry and the rest of the progressive majority on the Irvine City Council, I like to play the Christina Shea Drinking Game, which means a shot for everytime she accuses the progressive council majority of “acting in secret” or trying to keep thing “from the public eye.” But oddly enough, there’s never any proof of a secret meeting. It’s just Shea’s say-so.Â
If Republicans hate Larry so much, he must be doing something right. So if you see him, please wish Larry Agran a happy birthday today.
