Hat Tip to Matt Cunningham at Red County for his report that Sue Perez has decided not to challenge State Senator Lou Correa.Â
The story says Perez may have some baggage that could be damaging in mail pieces against her, but her biggest issue is that she doesn’t live in the district. Matt seems convinced Correa is vulnerable for his vote on tax increases during the last budget cycle, yet Correa remains popular with those he represents. If he were so beatable, Janet Nguyen would have surley thrown her hat in the ring since her BoS position would still be safe.
Thanks Dan,
I agree with your assessment. After such a close race in 2006, one would figure a top tier challenger would be coming out of the wood work. INstead Correa had a D-List challenger who has now dropped out. Word is they are trying to recruit Lucille Kring, although I would not rate her as an A-list challenger. Correa is likely going to get 65% or more in Santa Ana alone, Daucher could not come back from that deficit in the rest of the district. Whoever challenges him is not going to get Daucher’s numbers in the rest of the district, and Kring may be from Anaheim but will still lose those latino strongholds to Correa by a 2 to 1 margin. Good luck in 2014 GOP, oh that’s right, Solorio will come and beat the GOP standard bearer to kingdom come.
Guys, Sup. Lou Correa barely beat carpet-bagging Lynn Daucher in 2006 — and that was in a huge Democratic year with the help of a major Democratic IE for write-in Otto Bade attacking Daucher from the right.
Now, Sen. Lou has the big, broken “read my lips, no new taxes” promise hanging around his neck in what will be a big GOP year.
So tell me again how Lou isn’t vulnerable?
“It’s the economy stupid”
Lou is vulnerable. Say what you want about who created this Bush-recession but the overspending, laxed oversight, and “manana mentality”(we will pay for it tommorow)by the the “what” 7th biggest economy in the world has failed us.
Today, the OC register wrote about Lou’s direct involvment in hading out the Golden parachuts to public safety. This is BK every city and county that fell for this scheme. I commented about this happening in the OC REgister in 2001 and its happening.
Yet, I believe Lou’s heart is geniune, when I se him at this public event or that one, or read about it, I their with my kids and know he is giving up his time with his for the community.
Nevertheless, he just doesn’t realize how screwed up the living beyong their means, with the Bonds and Pensions, this once great state.
We could have some legislation that dealt with the Real estate fiasco and stoped in from the Legislature but we didn’t get anything till the house fell. Why? Perhaps the fact that he was a former agent and/or that he has friends and donors who are Broker/agents and LOs.
As someone who has lived in GG, SA, and Anaheim, the last 40 years let me tell you demgraphics in at least these areas have changed to favor a non-Latino Candidate.
Things are getting worse, not better and the longer people suffer the more likely they will look for a candidate that offers a change , even one from another party.
