George Jaramillo and Mike Carona at a Press Conference in 2001
SANTA ANA – George Jaramillo, the ex-lawman who assisted the federal government in its takedown of former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, was sentenced today to 27 months in federal prison.
Jaramillo, a former Garden Grove police sergeant and assistant sheriff who once aspired to run for sheriff himself, also must pay a $50,000 fine and serve three years of probation, according to U.S. District Judge Andrew Guilford.
Guilford also ordered Jaramillo pay as restitution any winnings he receives in a state lawsuit over his wrongful termination from the Sheriff’s Department. That amount has yet to be finalized, but estimates of Jaramillo’s winnings have ranged from $183,000 to $300,000.
