Carrie Prejean, this year’s Miss California, has been stripped of her crown for ongoing issues with carrying out the duties of her title. Donald Trump, who owns the rights to the Miss USA Paegant, was involved.
From the story on Yahoo: “The group kicked the controversial beauty queen from her post due to “contract violations including Ms. Prejean’s unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization,” the pageant’s Executive Director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement.
Trump was also involved in Wednesday’s dethroning, and leant his voice to her dismissal.
“I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California USA Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so,” Trump said his statement. “Unfortunately it just doesn’t look like it is going to happen and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision. Carrie is a beautiful young woman and I wish her well as she pursues other interests.”
Miss Malibu Tami Farrell, who was the First Runner-Up, is now Miss California.
Prejean made statements during a Q&A where she came out in support of a definition of marriage that consisted of “one man and one woman.” She was attacked for this answer by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. While I personally don’t agree with Ms. Prejean’s point of view, she was sincere, honest and respectful in answering the question, and Perez Holton, who holds the same opinion of the rights of gays and lesbians to marry that I do, was a hugh ass in his reaction to it.
