Trusted tipsters are emailing me that State Senator Mimi Walters is gauging interest in challenging for the Republican nomination for CD-48, Rep. John Campbell’s seat. I ignored the first three emails, but when the eighth email (from different tipsters)came in this morning, I contacted the Senator’s office and got a firm denial.Â
“The rumor is not true. She has no plans to run for Congress,” said a spokesperson from Walter’s office in Sacramento.
As Irvine Council member Beth Krom continues to rack up donations and support, Campbell may opt for early retirement. He does have some health issues and Walters has been following Campbell’s footsteps from State Assembly to State Senate; could Congress be her next leap? It’s early yet. And despite the denial from the Senator’s office, the tongue wagging is happening.
