Krom Makes it Official

We recieved the following announcement this morning from Irvine Councilwoman Beth Krom.

I wanted you to be among the first to know that I am running for Congress! Everything I have learned from my eight years as a City Council member and Mayor has reinforced one undeniable truth: without strong, committed representation in Washington, our cities – and our citizens – will not have a real seat at the table on issues that impact us every day at the local level.

Together we have been able to accomplish a lot. The “quality of life” issues I have worked to advance at the local level – education, environmental stewardship, enhanced transportation and infrastructure and public safety – are priorities that deserve the interest and support of our Congressional representative.

In four years as Mayor, I was never once contacted by Congressman Campbell to express interest in, or offer assistance on our community priorities. He never attended a single city event, nor did he ever contact me to commend the city on any of our achievements. If the largest city in the 48th District is not being served, what hope is there for the other cities in the district?

The truth is that John Campbell has felt “safe and secure” in his seat and apparently believes he has no obligation to engage in the kind of responsive advocacy that we in local government recognize is essential to strong community leadership. I can no longer sit idly by and see the 48th District go effectively unrepresented.

Please join me and my special guest, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, for my campaign kick-off fundraiser!
