This morning, the Orange County Board of Supervisors considered the recommendaton of Chairman Moorlach to appoint Thomas Flanigan to the County Employee’s Retirement Board. 10 people spoke before the Board on the matter. All but two opposed the appointment of Flanigan or at least a delay in his appointment until a DA review is completed.
Flanigan came to the meeting and asserted that he had no relationship with Ryan Labs anasset management company. The problem with his assertion is that no one has told the staff at Ryan Labs that he doesn’t work there, as an OC Register investigation has revealed. Someone is lying, I wonder who? I am pretty sure that the Register, who’s editorial positions rarely support public workers, would make this stuff up. But I can understand why Moorlach would want to keep it quiet.
Supervisor Bates indicated a lack of support for Flanigan’s appointment over the “appearance” of a conflict of interest. Supervisor Nguyen voted No. Supervisor Campbell seconded the motion to approve Flanigan and Norby joined in voting in favor.
After a lengthy discussion the Board voted to affirm the appointment of Mr. Flanigan to the OCERS Board.
How did Sup. Janet Nguyen vote?
Nguyen and Bates voted no. The rest voted yes.
