I just heard about the 1st Annual Taste of Downtown Garden Grove and this event sounds like it will be a heck of a lot of fun. I have been waiting for years for this type of showcase event to grace the sidewalks of Garden Grove’s Historic Main Street.Â
On July 27th Downtown Garden Grove celebrates to return of perfomances to the Gem Theater in Garden Grove with the premier of Seussical The Musical, in addition to highlighting the the fantastic choices of cuisine offered in the neighborhood. Join downtown merchants for a progressive evening beginning with hors d’oeuvres and delicacies at downtown Garden Grove restaurants, while enjoying live entertainment by local talent from The Colony theater group, and then attend an exclusive showing of Seussical The Musical at the Gem Theater at the 1st Annual Taste of Downtown celebration. After the production, guests will have the opportunity to meet the production’s actors in person.
Festivities and food begin at 6:00 p.m., to give you plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely tour of Garden Grove’s downtown businesses and to take in the Colony’s performances. Shortly before 8 p.m., everyone will gather at the newly reopened Gem Theater to enjoy a lively homage to Dr. Seuss.
Seussical is the premier production presented this season at the Gem by One More Productions, featuring the mischievous Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville. The classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by JoJo a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! As each story unfolds, you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle themes are making this musical one that appeals to all ages.
At this point in time participating restaurants include the Azteca, Doug’s Downtown Grill, Zlakets Market, and Main Streeet Pizza who will each feature samplings from their most popular fare as well as beer and wine.
Be sure to reserve your place early, as seating is limited. Tickets for dinner, live entertainment and Seussical the Musical are $48 each and can be purchased from the Garden Grove Downtown Business Association at 12866 Main Street Suite 100, or call (714) 534-0992 for more information.
Call me crazy, but I don’t really want to know what Garden Grove tastes like.
Allready have my tickets, we need more of the same here in Garden Grove.
last time i was on main street, it smelled a bit rancid.
Will this event be in Vietnamese or English?
…or Korean, Spanish, or Samoan? It’s a real melting pot up there (as I know from playing piano for the GGHS choir)
We appreciate the plug, as well as your ongoing support of Main Street Garden Grove! If you like delicious food and great theater, this one night event should be a great time for everyone. The show opened last night to a full house and I’ve heard nothing but raving reviews all day. “Seussical” is the premier production of the Gem Theater with it’s new operators ONE MORE PRODUCTIONS, since being dark for several years.
Furthermore all proceeds from this special fundraising event will go to benefit the Garden Grove Downtown Business Association. This local non-profit organization was formed in 1953, and is made up of individuals who are dedicated to the preservation of the downtown’s irreplaceable historical atmosphere and heritage, insuring that Main Street’s 100 year legacy of cultural, economic and social benefits will be maintained for all present and future generations here in Garden Grove. I was in the audience last night. “Seussical the Musical” is fantastic! Don’t forget that next door at the Ampitheatre, Shakespeare Orange County is putting on “Henry V”. We are very proud of our theaters in Garden Grove.

The four restaurants serving food that night are all excellent: Zlaket’s, Azteca Mexican Restaurant, Main Street Pizza, and Doug’s Downtown Grill. The show will be a blast, also. I am looking forward to the event. Come check it out and Main Street the rest of the year.

Do come join Downtown Garden Grove, the kids performance before the production, the food from all our restuarants and the great production. Everyone participating in this event has extensive background in putting together a top notch event. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by to experience what is truly happening in the heart of Orange County.
Come on people of Garden Grove. As of Noon, Monday 7/21, a minuscule number of tickets had been sold. We need a good turnout to stuff the junk in the first few posts above in a place of theirs where the sun don\’t shine. We have no profit ax to grind as we sold our Main Street store a few years back and retired. We just want to see the town that we love and live in rise to its proper place in the eyes of the likes of the readers of this web page.
My wife and I saw the show last Saturday. We loved it and we’ll be seeing it again on the 27th. It will be a great event for Garden Grove and to help get our Gem theater off to a good start.
