Professor, Democrat Dies

Longtime CSUF sociology professor Gangadharappa “Nanjun” Nanjundappa died on Monday. Nanjundappa was also a member of the Orange County Democratic Central Committee and he ran for state Assembly in 2000 and 2002 as the Democratic candidate for the 72nd District. 

From the Orange County Register article:

Diana Guerin, chair of the California State University, Fullerton, Academic Senate, said that the professor known as “Nanjun” kept photos of Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi above his desk.A campus memorial service for Nanjundappa is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Golleher Alumni House at Cal State Fullerton, 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton.

    Dr. G. Nanjundappa, Professor of Sociology and former Democrat Assembly candidate from the 72nd District twice died of cardiac arrest early on Labor Day in Scripps Hospital in La Jolla. Najun,as he was known by friends, had been at CSU Fullerton for 35 years. For 25 years he had been active in the California Faculty Association, the Union that represents the 23,000 faculty in the California State University system. At the time of his death he was President of the CSUF Chapter of the CFA as well as involvement in IndoAmerican organizations. A memorial service will be held on the Fullerton campus on October 5 from 3-5 p.m. Contact CFA at (714) 278-2827 for more details.

  3. Nanjun was a great guy. Every time I saw him, he made time to check in and see what was going on with me. He cared about the people in his world. I’ll miss him!
