I’m a member of the OC Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and got this flier. In fact, if it weren’t for an event I attended by this organization in April 2006, I’d still have no idea who Jon Fleischman or Matt Cunningham are, as both were featured in a right wing love fest on crisis communications.
According to the United States Census Bureau’s predictions, there will be no ethnic majority in the U.S. by the year 2050. As our nation continues to change, however, we also continue to be challenged by issues on race and diversity. The Orange County Register published an article reflecting data that Orange County will be “majority minority” in the near future. How will Orange County embrace this change? The OC/PRSA Diversity Committee invites you to join them at their 2nd Annual Membership Mixer to discuss how Orange County’s changing demographics affects the county’s media, politics and businesses.

Supervisor Janet Nguyen. The Hon. Janet Nguyen was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in February 2007. In doing so, she became the first woman ever to represent the First District, the first Asian-American and the first Vietnamese-American to serve on the Board of Supervisors, and the youngest Supervisor ever to be elected in Orange County. In addition, she is only the fifth woman to serve on the Board of Supervisors, and this is the first time in Orange County’s history that two women are serving on the Board at the same time.ÂÂ

Seems somewhat Ironic that Janet will be speaking about diversity when she devoted a significant sum of her campaign money and energy in bashing latinos last year.
