Steven Greenhut blew off some gas on Tuesday commenting on my post announcing the Democratic Party of Orange County’s 13th Annual Truman Awards Dinner. He took particular notice of this year’s honorees, Truman honoree Irvine City Councilman Larry Agran and Gompers honoree Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriff’s President Wayne Quint.
In his post on Orange Punch The party of Agran and Quint, He called Councilman Agran a “well-known political scoundrel,” and Wayne Quint as being “known for his bullying and his constant resort to emotionalism to achieve an unsustainable level taxpayer-funded pension benefits for his members. He is an enemy of taxpayers, who are stuck funding Quint’s $180K a year salary, which he uses to lobby government for special favors for his membership.”
I’m not certain how Greenhut justifies his assertion that Quint is funded by the taxpayers, unless he is referring to membership dues paid members who are paid by the taxpayers. As far as Larry Agran is concerned, if he is really the scoundrel Greenhut claims, then why haven’t the voters kicked him out of office by now?
One of the commenters on Orange Punch put it this way…
Steve,
I used to live in Irvine. I enjoyed the constant barrage of acrimony and innuendo you and the OC GOP would throw at Agran. I enjoyed it even more when the dust would settle on election day and Agran would be standing as the winner. You see Steve, the folks in Irvine are a bit smarter than you and the rest would like to believe. They look around Irvine and realize it is because of the vision that is embodied by Larry that Irvine is the city it has become. The constant bleating of illegalities and improprieties by people such as yourself fall on deaf ears because he hasn’t done anything wrong. Unless you want to try and convince us our GOP endorsed DA is somehow so loyal to a democrat that the he is unwilling to pursue your’s and the other’s scurrilous charges. I do like how you call him a political scoundrel. It only proves he’s smarter than his detractors. Nothing like a personal attack to reinforce that one’s point has no merit.
But do keep trying. I’m sure it only endears you to the ever diminishing readership that lives in Irvine.
Steven lead off his post with; “Sometimes organizations do things that are quite revealing. The Orange County Democratic Party has chosen to honor Irvine Councilman Larry Agran and deputies union leader Wayne Quint.”
To Steven’s comments DPOC Executive Director Melahat Rafiei had this to say…
Of course we are the party of Agran and Quint. Larry Agran and Wayne Quint represent the Democratic ideals of protecting the public, protecting the environment, protecting workers rights, protecting the jobs and rights of our public safety professionals, as well as distinguished civic service. We are proud to recognize them as our honorees this year.“ÂÂ
Well Steven, thanks again for your contribution to global warming… one word at a time.
Chris,
You beat me to it. I blew my water through my nose when I read the comments part of that post.
OC Dem hit the nail on the proverbial head on calling Greenhut out on his accusations.
Larry Agran is hardly the monster that Christina Shea and Steve Greenhut have made him out to be. If Larry had that much bad about him he would have been charged years ago.
YO, Stevie…
Thanks for the free publicity!!!
Go Melahat!
Larry Agran is a Rock Star!
He’s kept Irvine moving forward in regards to community, housing, public safety, economic development and smart growth. Much of Red County is red with envy at his accomplishments.
No other locally elected city councilmember can even come close to boasting as many successes as Agran has in Irvine! If you doubt it, just look how many are still lining up to live in Irvine.
