Oops, Jabba was right, sort of.

On Wednesday I fired off a post claiming that Jabbering Jabba the Greenhut was wrong about the amount of Sheriff Carona’s pension benefit.  Jabba had claimed in a post on th Regiister’s Orange Punch Blog that day that Sheriff Carona received the 3% @ 50 Pension benefit, I said it was 2.7 @ 55. Well, it turns out the Sheriff receives the 3% @50 benefit.

I thought I had confirmed my belief with Sheriff Carona when I talked with him on Wednesday before I posted my comment.  In the context of the discussion we had, Sheriff Carona thought I was talking about retiree medical benefits, which he does pay for as a member of the County Administrative Management unit.

Sorry Jabba, I was wrong on the Sheriff’s pension benefit by 0.3% and five years.

However, your point that the Sheriff was speaking on behalf of only himself and personal gain, that was wrong.

Sheriff Carona spoke to the Board, as the elected leader of his staff of public safety personnel.  He spoke about his recollection of the events that lead to the increase in pension benefit, and of his belief that the County made a promise and that it should be kept.

Greenhut tried to dismiss Carona’s opposition to Moorlach’s plan simply because he also receives the same benefit.  Neat trick Jabba, but claiming that anyone eligible for the pension benefit cannot credibly speak in favor of the County keeping its promise is nothing more than a simple debating trick.  It is okay to disagree with a position but argue why you disagree. A blanket dismissal of arguments opposing yours solely on the basis of whether the opposition receives benefit from their position doesn’t support your argument.

For the record, there was a delay in Greenhuts response to me on our site.  It seems that our liberally biased spam filter classified his comment as spam. 🙂 So Greenhut, argue your points on their merits if you can. Simply jabbering is nothing more than a distraction, and spam.

Isn’t it nice to know your filter works?

  2. There was this movie in 1970 called “Colossus: The Forbin Project” where a defense department computer named Colossus, took controll of all U.S. nuclear weapons and seized control of everything.

I think our Spam Filter (Colossus Libealus) has taken control. It s demanded that I approve every message from Greenhut. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m living in that Mac commercial where MS Vista Security guy requires PC to approve everything.

What I don’t understand is why it lets Matt Cunningham (Jubal) and the dozen or more Conservatives who post regularly here to post at will?

    Sigh.
