Moorlach’s objection doesn’t make something a controversy

While I will agree that spending $350,000 at a time of a major budget crisis and while we are laying off workers is ill advised and a bit out of sync with reality; I’m not sure that one out of four County Supervisors objecting really makes it a controversy.

Harriett Wieder, first woman elected as OC Supervisor, dies at 89

The Orange County Register reported Monday night that former Second District Supervisor Harriet M. Wieder has died. She was 89 years old. Wieder was elected to the Huntington Beach City Council in 1973 and became Mayor in 1976. In 1978 Wieder became the first woman elected as a Supervisor in Orange County. She served on the Board from 1979 to 1995.

12 Percent of OC School Children Living in Poverty

The number of impoverished children ages 5 to 17 jumped by 6,188 in a single year, to an estimated 67,062 now in Orange County. Meanwhile, a much larger portion of the county’s students – 43 percent – is receiving free or subsidized meals in school.
