Weekly Address: National Security Over Politics on START

In this week’s address, President Obama called on members of Congress to come together to ratify the new START treaty just as they were able to come together to pass the essential economic package he signed into law on Friday. Ratifying a treaty like START is not about winning a victory for an administration or a political party, it is about the safety and security of the country.

The Obama Tax Cuts

President Obama signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 on Friday preventing the Bush tax cuts from expiring for anyone. Progressives, like Paul Krugman and Huffington Post writers, have derided this compromise. To the liberal base, this Act is, in effect, the equivalent of what Bush’s immigration reform was to his base.

You’re A Mean One Mr. Moorlach

Over the weekend Supervisor John Moorlach fired off a premptive Op-Ed in the Orange County Register attacking public employees and blaming their pension benefits for budget shortfalls and what the headline to his commentary describes as a “Formula for disaster.” Moorlach goes on with this misleading argument against defined benefit retirement plans.
