I was somewhat encouraged when the Orange County Register was purchased earlier this year. I was hopeful that new ownership might breathe some balance into the Register’s dusty editorial pages. It appears that my hopes were optimistic at best, naive at worst.

Proposition 37, which will be on the California ballot in November, would be the first law in the U.S. requiring labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) announced Thursday that Santa Ana College has been awarded $250,000.00 in grant funds for the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program. The funds will help military veterans receive the skills they need to successfully continue their educations beyond a high school diploma or GED.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced this morning that the jobless rate has dropped below 8 % for the first time in almost four years. The number of people reporting they’re employed has jumped by 873,000 in the month of September. The percentage of unemployed dropped from 8.1% to a 44-month low.

On Wednesday night, Mitt Romney didn’t tell the American people the truth. He didn’t tell the truth about his $5 trillion tax cut weighted toward the wealthy. He didn’t tell the truth about his plan for Americans with pre-existing conditions. And he didn’t tell the truth about his plan and the President’s plan for Medicare.
