Thursday evening the delegates of the Orange County Labor Federation approved the selection of Julio Perez to be the next Executive Director of federation of Orange County labor organizations. Perez pledged to continue the work and leadership of his predecessor Tefere Gebre in fighting for the rights of working men and women in Orange County

The ruling, dated last week, from Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark V. Mooney which orders new district based elections for the City of Palmdale. The ruling illustrates what the City of Anaheim may be looking at as an outcome of a similar suit filed alleging violations of the California Voting Rights Act caused by the at-large election of city council members.

Yesterday former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona lost another appeal related to his January 2009 felony conviction on one count of witness tampering. A three judges hearing the appeal denied Carona’s request saying that the judge did not make an error in his sentencing decision. The court said, “The sentence imposed was not substantively unreasonable.”

UPDATED!!! Costa Mesa Mayor Jim Righeimer has decided that he does not want to listen to the public first at the meetings of the city council. Righiemer’s solution to this “problem” of his own creation is to limit public comment at the beginning of the meeting to ten randomly selected speakers, leaving the rest to wait until the end of the agenda, however late that time may arrive.
