Republican Party of Orange County Chairman Will O’Neill has issued the following statement:
“Orange County voters woke up to news that the Trump Administration had the backbone to act—while California’s leaders sat on their hands.
“First, the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit against the Orange County Registrar of Voters to ensure accurate voter registration rolls. The lawsuit alleges that a complaint from the family member of a non-citizen in Orange County indicated that the non-citizen received an unsolicited mail-in ballot from the Defendant, despite lack of citizenship.
“Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon is right to say that allowing non-citizens to vote in elections is a violation of the American people’s right to determine their future. The Republican Party of Orange County applauds the efforts of AAG Dhillon, Deputy Assistant Attorney General Michael Gates, and U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli for their fervent efforts.
“Second, the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) ruled that California violated Title IX by letting males take spots from girls in sports. In a rare moment of agreement, the Republican Party of Orange County actually agreed with Gov. Newsom when he said that it was ‘deeply unfair’ for biological boys to compete against biological girls in sports. He, though, took no action and hid behind a podcasting mic.
“U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, on the other hand, reminded Newsom of his quote and then she took action. The DOE has suggested remedies for California to accept, including (i) permitting only girls to compete against girls, (ii) restore to female athletes all individual records, titles, and awards misappropriated by male athletes competing in female competitions, and (iii) send personalized letters apologizing on behalf of the state of California for allowing her educational experience to be marred by sex discrimination.
“While there are clearly biological differences in sports, Secretary McMahon and AAG Dhillon reminded us that there is no biological difference in leadership. There are instead leaders with courage and spines … and then there is Gavin Newsom.”
