Small Business Owner, UC Irvine alum and local community leader enters the race with a focus on uplifting community voices

5/1/24 – Irvine, CA – Jackie Kan, healthcare executive and daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, announced her candidacy for Irvine City Council District 1 today. She announces her campaign with the endorsements of California State Treasurer Fiona Ma and Irvine Mayor Farrah N. Khan.

This year will be the first time Irvine City Council Members will be chosen by district. Irvine City Council District 1 encompasses the northernmost part of the city and includes the neighborhoods of Eastwood, Northpark, Northpark Square, Northwood Pointe, Orchard Hills, Stonegate, Stonegate East and West Irvine.

Kan is running to address the unique needs of District 1, and to amplify the voices of residents in these neighborhoods.

Kan fell in love with Irvine during her undergraduate years at UC Irvine and has seen how much the city has grown and developed since her time at the university.

“I saw first hand how much the city has changed and grown over the last twenty years and that is especially true in District 1. My campaign is about uplifting the voices of all residents of the district, and ensuring that our community continues to deliver exceptional quality of life for its residents,” said Kan.

Over the course of two decades, Kan has been at the forefront of driving digital transformation within Fortune 500 companies spanning various industries. Through her leadership, she has driven significant advancements in digital strategies, contributing to the success of these companies and establishing new benchmarks for excellence in the private sector.

Kan has extensive experience serving her community with her journey starting with Girls Educational and Mentoring Services, an organization committed to empowering survivors of domestic sex trafficking. She served on the Young Professionals Board and helped raise awareness while delivering resources to survivors. She has also focused on her local community as a member of Irvine’s Community Emergency Response Team.

In showing her support for Kan, Mayor Khan highlighted her experience. “I am excited to endorse Jackie Kan for Irvine City Council District 1. Her vision on public safety, affordable housing and childcare are what we need for Irvine’s future and her experience shows that she has the skills to enact that vision on the municipal level. She is the clear choice for her district and I’m thrilled to join her on the campaign trail and help get her elected.”

As a professional and mother, Kan has seen firsthand the challenges families face finding affordable housing and reliable childcare, and wants to ensure that Irvine remains one of the safest cities in California. Adding to her campaign platform of community safety, environment, and childcare, Kan said,

“This election provides an opportunity to increase accountability and representation for the residents of Irvine. Our new system gives us a chance to strengthen our local democracy and ensure that our district gets the resources it needs. I’m committed to listening, serving, and uplifting our residents so that together we shape the future of our beautiful city.”

Jackie resides in Irvine with her husband and two children. She currently works for a medical device company headquartered in Irvine.  When she is not working or spending time with her family, she can be found enjoying one of Irvine’s many boba options or getting some sunshine along the Jeffrey Open Space Trail.
