Porter’s “Rigged” Comment Making Waves

Rep. Katie Porter finished out the money for the November election for US Senate, and in her thanks to suporters, she make statements about being outspent, suggesting the election was “rigged.”  That language was triggering to Democrats — even those who have supported her — which resulted in her issuing a new statement (see the photo above).

And that statement seems to be backfiring too.

Here’s some reaction from X.com (formerly Twitter) two days after the primary:

I’m sadly unsurprised that Rep. Katie Porter is claiming the primary was “rigged.” A lot of us who are progressives and probably would have supported her bid from the outset declined because of the many things we heard behind-the scenes. This seems to be par for the course.

Katie Porter wants to speak to the manager about the fact she ran a bad campaign and despite running longer than anyone else in the race and sending out 5 emails a day that wore us all down, did not win and so the election must have been rigged. How disappointingly Trumpian.

On the note of Katie Porter, she’s not wrong on the tactics that were used to defeat her. It’s politics. But as a once beloved smart Dem leader with a whiteboard, we know, and SHE should know using words like “Rigged” is a dangerous statement – and extremely disappointing.

If you’re defending Katie Porter for saying the election was rigged then you are part of the problem. And don’t come at me with the rich owning our politicians etc. Saying an election is rigged will not help the problem! All it will do is damage democracy!

Kudos and thanks to all the liberals and Democrats calling out Katie Porter for her language.

and Katie had some defenders too:

For the libs and journalists melting down that Katie Porter called her election “rigged.” She is absolutely right. You have just normalized the buying of elections by billionaires and Super Pacs as the normal democratic process…
It’s disappointing she finished third in Orange County.  Her political career is far from over and I can see her with a cabinet appointment in the next Biden administration.

  1. She is being vilified in DEM circles NATIONALLY. hints of a microcosm of what delusional Diamond and Rapist Vern keep touting.

Add Katie Porter to the list of FAILED POLITICIANS who the OJB have endorsed.

Porter should have stayed in her lane and not ventured onto Anna Drive or Steele Lane.

Maybe Diamond can buy her used minivan to replace the USED primus he scored from a “Prominent Democrat Activist” he can’t or won’t name.

Dan, can Greg buy fuel with EBT?
