“The Truce” is a Must Read on the Future of the Democratic Party

I was sent an advanced copy of this book this week and I can’t put it down.  Here’s the content from the pitch that was sent:

Even before the cataclysmic 2016 election, the Democratic Party had long been at war with itself—yet Joe Biden’s narrow victory in 2020 bridged the divide. Facing the dire threat of a second Trump administration, Democrats forged an unlikely but effective coalition that stalled Trumpism at the ballot box and enacted a raft of consequential legislation. But how long can the uneasy peace hold, and can Biden win again?

THE TRUCE is a definitive history of a half-decade of upheaval in the Democratic Party in which a new generation aggressively pursued their progressive ideals while the powerful, centrist establishment adapted to remain in command. Journalists Hunter Walker and Luppe B. Luppen illuminate this story of backroom maneuvering and political strategy with new revelations about pivotal events and exclusive, on-the-record comments from activists, campaign operatives, and members of Congress.  In interviews, Hunter and Luppe can also discuss the current primary process and predictions for the future.

Inside readers will find:

  • New information about the personal relationship between President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Barack Obama, including the conversation they had on the night of the 2016 election.
  • Inside stories of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s rise to political stardom and her struggles to wield it, revealing the human side of the Democratic wunderkind and the colorful personalities behind the scenes of her operation.
  • Detailed reporting on the political operations of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
  • The surprising maneuvering in the last days of Michael Bloomberg’s doomed presidential campaign.
  • News on the major restructuring of the Democratic party’s primary calendar and analysis of its likely effect on the party’s presidential contests into the future.
  • On the record interviews with Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Ilhan Omar, Andrew Cuomo, and Pramila Jayapal, among others, that are packed with news-making quotes and insights.

For the endorsement quotes, a spot on series of them:

“Everything you need to know about the state of the Democratic Party.” — Brian Stelter, former Host of CNN’s Reliable Sources.

“A fascinating and brisk journey through the last half-dozen years of the history of the Democratic Party and a detailed explanation of how the progressive and establishment wings of the party managed a remarkable degree of unity under the improbable presidency of Joe Biden.” — Josh Marshall, founder and editor-in-chief of Talking Points Memo.

“A riveting account of the recent past and present of the Democratic Party…absolute must-read for anyone concerned about its future.” — Kevin Kruse, professor of history, Princeton.

The book is available on Janaury 23; rather than buy it on Amazon, try to order it from one of OC’s wonderful independent book stores, like Arvida Books in Old Town Tustin.

  1. Looks like a good read.

As soon as I am done with “crazy Gregs”12,000 word missives about how he can’t afford to repair a 20 year old Toyota, I’ll Crack into it.

      • Greg’s post is the best unintentional comedy this week. Fact checking a few things. Each post is tagged and comments are closed after a period of time. I do nothing to hide any post. Not my fault Greg can’t figure out how to use the search function here. I’m sure his wife is delighted he DiVinyls himself in private once a week because it’s one less thing she has to do.
