On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the California Labor Federation announced its unanimous decision to endorse Retired Fire Captain and longtime California labor leader, Joe Kerr, in California’s 40th Congressional District. The Kerr campaign also earned the endorsement of the LA/OC Building Trades Council this week.

 

The California Labor Federation represents 1,200 affiliated unions and over 2.2 million members. The LA/OC Building Trades Council represents 48 local unions and 150,000 members. 

 

Ernesto Medrano, Executive Secretary of the LA/OC Building Trades Council, stated, “After reviewing your public experience and your commitment to working families, we think you will be a great asset when you are elected. Your experience will benefit all the constituents that encompass the 40th Congressional District. The Building Trades Craft Unions are proud to support your campaign.”

 

These endorsements further signify Joe Kerr’s standing as organized labor’s candidate for Congress against MAGA extremist Young Kim. Joe is also the only Democratic candidate in CA-40 endorsed by members of Congress, including, Representatives Katie Porter, Adam Schiff, Mike Levin, Lou Correa, Judy Chu, Mark Takano, and Val Hoyle. 

 

Joe Kerr is the only Democratic candidate in CA-40 that has earned the support of statewide leaders, including, former Governor Jerry Brown and State Treasurer Fiona Ma.

 

Joe Kerr is the only Democratic candidate in CA-40 endorsed by the mayors of the three largest Orange County cities – Mayors Ashleigh Aitken, Valerie Amezcua, and Farrah Khan.

 

Joe Kerr is the only Democratic candidate in CA-40 who state legislators trust will be a key ally in Congress. He has earned endorsements from Senators Tom Umberg, Josh Newman, and Dave Min, Assemblymembers Sharon Quirk-Silva and Avelino Valencia, and former legislators Joe Dunn and Adam Gray.
