EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Allyson Muñiz Damikolas for election to California’s 40th
Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Allyson Muñiz Damikolas because California’s 40th Congressional District deserves better than a representative who
consistently votes against their most basic freedoms. Muñiz Damikolas has been a strong and outspoken advocate for education, reproductive rights, and gun
safety reform, and has proven herself to be a leader in her community who can deliver results. We know she has what it takes to fight Republican anti-choice
extremism in Congress, and we are honored to be able to support her candidacy.”
“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of EMILYs List,” said Allyson Muñiz Damikolas. “Now more than ever, we need pro-choice women in Congress. As
a mother of two daughters, I worry that they will have fewer rights to control their own bodies than I had growing up and Young Kim is part of the problem. The
strength of our grassroots movement is a testament that our community is ready for change, and I’m thankful EMILYs List will help me bring that call for change
to Congress.”
About EMILYs List
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a
goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850
million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong
campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out
women voters to the polls.
Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color.

About Allyson Muñiz Damikolas
Allyson Muñiz Damikolas is an engineer, mom of three, and Tustin school board trustee running for Congress in California’s 40th Congressional District. Rooted in
California, her Mexican-American family has a strong military background; her father is a US Marine veteran and her grandfathers fought in WWII. Her mother, a
union cafeteria worker, raised four children. Determined to rise from financial instability, Allyson got an engineering degree and joined an environmental
consulting firm.
When Allyson’s daughters faced a complex medical condition, she paused her career to advocate for them, battling insurance companies and the medical
system to get the treatments and policy coverage they needed. Once in school, the girls needed a champion to ensure their education would help them reach
their full potential. In being that champion, Allyson discovered that a large portion of students were lacking resources and attention from the district.
Determined to uplift low-income students, Allyson unseated a 24-year incumbent and became the first Latina in over 30 years to join the Tustin Unified School
District board. Drawing from her experiences, she directed resources towards low-income students while prioritizing student and educator mental health. She
led the charge to convert the district’s Title 1 schools into Community Schools, hired 12 nurses and 14 mental health counselors, and secured a 13% wage
increase for teachers and classified workers in her school district.
Allyson is running against MAGA Republican Young Kim, in one of 18 Republican-held districts carried by President Biden in 2020 and one of 33
Republican districts the DCCC considers “in play” for the upcoming cycle. Allyson’s candidacy has garnered support from Democratic clubs and inspired
hundreds of grassroots supporters to donate and volunteer.
