GARDEN GROVE, CA             Continuing a Summer of momentum for Kim Nguyen’s Congressional campaign that includes endorsements from Congresswomen Linda Sanchez, Katie Porter, Jill Tokuda, and Sara Jacobs, as well as labor endorsements from the Orange County Employees Association and Teamsters Joint Council 42, Garden Grove Councilwoman Kim Nguyen today announced a historic endorsement from ASPIRE PAC, the political arm of the AANHPI Members of Congress. This support comes after the campaign also released endorsements from CHC BOLD PAC, the LA/OC Building and Construction Trades Council, State Senator Tom Umberg, Former State Assemblyman Tom Daly, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, and OC Supervisor Katrina Foley, among many others. Councilwoman Nguyen is the only candidate for Congress in the nation endorsed by both BOLD PAC and ASPIRE PAC

Upon endorsing Ms. Nguyen, ASPIRE PAC Chair Grace Meng stated:

“Kim Nguyen is the personification of the American Dream and ASPIRE PAC is excited to endorse her campaign. Kim has devoted her young life to public service and representing Garden Grove and its proud and vibrant Vietnamese community. She has a record of putting Orange County families first and fighting to uphold women’s health rights, lower the cost of living, and keep communities safe from gun violence. Kim would make history as the first Asian-Latina in Congress and she can be trusted to be a voice for all the constituents in her district. [She] will be strong advocate for our community and is a great example of the next generation of AANHPI leadership.”

Since announcing her congressional campaign, Kim Bernice Nguyen has amassed over 60 federal, state, county, local, education, and labor endorsements, showing that she is the Democrat who can win the primary and ultimately defeat MAGA Republican Michelle Steel.

The daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a Mexican immigrant, Kim Bernice Nguyen was the first in her family to graduate high school and college. At just 25, she won a historic election as the youngest person and first Latina ever elected to the Garden Grove City Council. A leader on women’s issues, Ms. Nguyen has stood up to harassment and sought equality and justice throughout Southern California and has fought to ensure that immigrants, like her parents, have the dignity and opportunity to succeed in our communities. A homegrown leader, Ms. Nguyen attended Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary, Doig Intermediate, and Santiago High School. As a healthcare expert, she will bring a much-needed public health background to Congress, having formerly worked for CalOptima and now as a Program Manager for a large health plan.

CA-45 is one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats in 2024. It is a Biden +6 district with a Democratic registration advantage of 5.6%. Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Latino voters are a majority of the district at 51.6% – with Vietnamese voters making up the largest block of AAPI voters at 58.4%. If elected, Ms. Nguyen would be the first person of Vietnamese descent ever elected to Congress in California and only the third in US history. She would also be the first Asian-Latina in Congress and one of a growing group of millennials seeking to make change on our most crucial issues.

Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Rising & Empowering Political Action Committee (ASPIRE PAC) is the political arm of the AANHPI Members of Congress. ASPIRE PAC is committed to supporting candidates of AANHPI descent and incumbents who represent large communities of AANHPI voters. According to the 2020 census, the AANHPI community is the fastest-growing demographic in the country. In addition, in the 2020 and 2022 elections, the AANHPI community increased its voter turnout more than any other community of color. There are currently 21 AAPI Members of Congress, including two U.S. Senators.
