Thursday Short Takes

None of these items are worthy of an entire blog post save the first one on the new districts in an exhaustive study by www.ardademographics.com.

Why add commentary to remarkable statistics and analysis?  You can read it here. Redistricting Analyis – New Maps 2022 – 32

And if you are thinking about running for office, do engage these guys to gauge your odds of getting elected.

  • Other postings of note, the attempted recall of newly elected Democratic school trustees in the Tustin Unified School District, who are being blamed for poor test scores while long term Republican trustees are not, has failed.  Not a single signature turned in on any petition.  And those you spent money for signs and marketing efforts to get Tustin voters to sign the recall petition are going to have some consequences if they are ever outed.  No campaign IDs provided, no reports on expenses filed, no financial reports revealed.  It is actually a mess which is over.
  • Seen in Old Town Tustin on my way to work, another illegal campaign sign near the statute of Columbus Tustin, the city founder.  No ID number.  It’s just a simple white sign with big block black letters that reads “Shawn Nelson for Judge.”  Nelson is currently a member of embattled DA Todd Spitzer’s staff.  Perhaps Nelson’s unofficial candidacy is a canary in the coal mine for Spitzer.
  • Matt Cunningham has launched a new OC political blog called OC Independent; the site has an email sign up field but does not offer a place to leave a comment.
  • Failed Irvine mayoral candidate Luis Huang has decided to file a primary challenge against State Rep. Cottie Petrie-Norris in AD73 because he didn’t like the way she voted on the failed “Medicare for All” bill in the State Legislature.  This program was tried in Vermont years ago and failed miserably resulting in sub-standard care that was way more expensive.  In running, Huang helps Republican Stephen Choi in a new district that’s solidly Democratic unless a spoiler candidate mucks up the engine.
  • After being super careful for two years (fully vaxxed and boosted), I tested positive for COVID19 on Monday.  I caught a cold at the end of January due to a lack of sleep (my brother was in the hospital in New York the entire month of January and died on the 30th).  I took an at-home test Sunday and was negative.  Monday, my wife calls to say she’s feeling sick and took a home test and it was positive.  We both got a test from a pharmacy and the overnight email says we were both positive.  So I’m isolating in my office with cold-like symptoms that have largely disappeared.  Get vaxxed and get boosted please!
  • And lastly, the OrangeJuiceBlog has apparently deleted its Twitter account.  So Vern Nelson can no longer flirt with women with Tweets and make his wife take responsibility for anything offensive.  There is no greater drama when Mrs. Nelson takes over Mr. Nelson’s social media accounts and starts sharing.

  1. Don’t not insult the greatest ladies man in OC history! Chick magnet Vern will find new ways to flirt with ladies behind Donna’s back and get caught again. And Moreno will stay silent and when confronted on his silence will ask why Lou Correa does no co-sponsor Medicare for All. Its all sick cycle.

    • Dear Chick Magnet,

At what point do we as Democrats get to rescind the D next to “democratic elected officials” who consistently vote against the wishes of Democratic Party voters who overwhelming favor Medicare for All and CalCare for all?

Before, or do we always have to wait until AFTER they kill the bills?

      Asking for sick Americans everywhere.

      • Luis. First, do you really believe YOU, at your tender age and lack of experience that YOU speak for Democratic voters?

If so then the solution is simple, vote Correa out. The problem with people like you is you want to complain. Yet all you need to do is vote at Lou, the problem is you have flakes like Mike Ortega running.

I believe that Jose Moreno knows he would be crushed like an ant on a beaten path if he challenged Lou. Who polling suggests is WIDELY popular. Pick another team brother, the greens maybe……

Maybe you should go back to Woodbridge High and ask the 12th grade poly sci instructor how democracy works in America.

Your campaign slogan against Cottie should be: Vote for Luis Huang, because I only I know better than the other 12,698 people that voted for her!

Or you could go The OJB route and have your wife send her pictures of you “SUPERIORNESS”.

        FOOL

      • Agree to disagree, Dan.

I challenged Mayor Shea for her live-stream bullshit with protesting UCI students begging their Mayor for help.

I had supported and voted for Farrah. No longer, Mayor Khan has showed her true colors, and she is a pawn and puppet of all the power and influence and the worst of Irvine and OC.

I don’t know Cottie, but all 3 Assemblymembers representing Orange County with a D next to their names receives a F from the Courage Campaign (https://couragescore.org/all-representatives/)

My friends from the true leftist Bernie Socialist and Communist side of the aisle, we will continue advocating for true Progressive change. Climate Crisis can no longer wait. Healhcare crisis can no longer wait. Immigration and housing crisis can no longer wait. We don’t need F “Democrats” in State Senate and Assembly, we need “A+” Assembly leaders like Asm. Alex Lee, Asm. Ash Kalra, and future Asm. James Coleman, Dr. Daniel Lee, Mike Ortega, Nina Turner, Fatima Iqbal-Zubair, Jennifer Esteen, “Boomer” Vicente, Maebe A. Girl, CA Working Families Party and OCDSA!

        • 1. Your challenge to then Mayor Shea had no impact at all.
          2. You ran for Mayor and somehow managed to pull in some votes from Farrah and that’s no definition of support.
          3. Bernie Sanders isn’t a Democrat and the Healthcare plan he helped move forward in VT was a massive failure and the plan in California would have dramatically raised taxes here.
          4. You pulled papers to run for governor but never saw it through.
          5. You won’t raise any significant money for anything

        • Hey Luis
You take that refresher in poly sci yet???

Mike Ortega is running for US Congress not CA. Assembly! But what pesky little FACTS matter when you are running the campaign to end all campaigns. I underestimated you brother. 36 followers. Dude you couldn’t pack that many people in Vern and Donna’s apartment!!!!

  2. I literally though Luis Huang candidacy was a joke. Like a real joke. Like a YouTube prank.

This guy could not get elected sixth grade class treasurer.

Then I learned he is aligned with The Orange Juice blob(s). That explains it.

  3. Luis Huang has about as much business running for office as Vern Nelson does teaching a safe driving class or sexual harassment talk.

Yet these asshats plead superiority because………why??
