There was a time when certain cities and towns in Orange County were known as “sundown towns,” which meant — if you were a Black-American — you had to leave before the sun set. And while we have come a long way, there is still a long way to go. I’m delighted to report on the latest DPOC-sanctioned Democratic Club in OC.
The Black Democrats of Orange County (BDOC) was formed with a mission is to advance the interests of OC’s black community by developing leaders, removing barriers to black residents, demand equity to eliminate disparities between racial groups, and increase black representation across the local organizations and in all levels of government.
The leadership team for the club is:
Gabriel Dima Smith, Chair
Eugene Fields, Vice Chair
Patrika Jamal, Treasurer
Laura Bratton, Secretary/ Community Development
