Porter Gaining Opponents for Midterms

Katie Porter

Rep. Katie Porter (CA-45) has gained a national following in her nearly three years in Congress and with it she’s attracting Republican candidates to run against her.  But hate to say it, the opponents are of the nutjob types.

If you read the coverage of her in-public family-friendly town hall in Irvine Sunday, one of her declared opponents, Nick Taurus, was violently disruptive and subsequent details about his life and candidacy simply make the OC GOP look horrible.  Unless the OC GOP is happy about candidates who are racist, homophobic, transphobic and mega-MAGA.

Two other candidates have emerged; one is public and the other is whispered about. And you have to ask yourself, is this the best the Republican Party can do in CA-45?

Amy Phan West, a small business owner and political novice from Westminster, has declared for CA-45.  More on her in a second.

The other unannounced and thus far undeclared candidate is State Representative Stephen Choi (AD-68); sources tell me he believes his track record for winning elections would make him the most viable candidate the OC GOP could get behind.  His record of accomplishment on the Irvine City Council or in the State Assembly isn’t anything to write home about.

All three have MAGA credentials, only repeat conservative right wing talking points, and have no idea what to do in Congress.

Let’s start with Taurus.  He filed to run on June 15 and used an Instagram account to encourage his fans to come to Porter’s town hall to be disruptive.  His campaign website, offer this: “Our Movement of ‘Christ, Country, Community,’ Starts in Orange County! I am an American nationalist and Roman Catholic who is most concerned with addressing the issues surrounding immigration, vaccination and Critical Race Theory.”

Nick Taurus

Someone let this guy know we have lots of Jewish people, Muslims and Agnostics in CA-45.  Taurus has railed against the LGBTQ community, people of color, hates CRT, and even went after Republican Caitlyn Jenner for being “a tranny.”  Taurus is also proud to stand with white supremacists.  #loser.  Perhaps if he examined his own views of white supremacy, he might benefit from learning more about CRT or teachers actually teaching history and science.

Phan West has a more positive personal story as a Vietnamese refugee but that positivity stops right there.  On her website, she writes:

“Where I came from, ‘Rights’ were a foreign word. The right to think for ourselves, the right to be successful, the right to bear arms were foreign ideas. Without rights, I know the people of a nation are oppressed. As I see the push for socialism by the radical left, it makes me cringe! Socialism will lead to communism. We see the destruction of small businesses, the censorship of big tech, and our rights being stripped away. I am ready to fight this battle to save California and to restore our freedom to live that “American Dream.”

You have to love a candidate who so doesn’t understand the First Amendment or censorship and fails to see the destruction of small business had more to do with Trump’s handling of COVID19. I’d love for Phan West to explain which of our rights are being stripped away?  Here, I’ll help — voting rights are being stripped away by Republicans.  Does she support limitations on voting and agree that state legislatures can overturn elections if they don’t like the outcome?  She’s a woman of color, so does she support the systemic racism that makes it harder for minorities to vote? Because that’s the party she’s signed up for.

She also rails against the CRT and believes socialism will lead to communism.  So as a small business owner, I’m delighted to know she uses socialist roads so customers can patronize her business which is protected by socialist police and fire departments, and his proud of her state university socialist college education while her children breath clean air and drink clean water derived from pro-socialist government policies.  Her biggest fans seem to be failed Congressional candidate Greg Raths and failed Irvine city council/school board candidate Mark Newgent. She’s been in Newsmax too.  As her campaign is based in Westminster, that’s CA-47, not CA-45 though you don’t have to live in the district to run for it.  I was unable to locate the city she resides in.

For Choi to run, I’d insist that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi come out and publicly endorse Katie Porter’s re-election in Orange County and bring that mock up that Choi wore on his back of Pelosi’s head on Josef Stalin’s body.

And if disgraced former President Donald Trump comes to OC, which of these three “candidates” will he embrace?  Taurus, who doesn’t have the foggiest idea of what being a good Christian is; Phan West, who thinks our rights are being stripped away; or Choi, who wants to make California great again even though his actual record shows no progress there?  All three oppose the radical left while embracing the radical right?

I think Katie Porter’s whiteboard could get more votes than these three clowns.
