IRVINE, CA – In another indication of her widespread support from progressive leaders across Orange County in the race for Assembly District 68, today Irvine City Councilwoman Melissa Fox secured a vital endorsement from freshman U.S. Congresswoman and progressive All-Star Katie Porter.

Congresswoman Porter represents the 45th Congressional District, encompassing several Orange County cities, and has proven herself as a fierce consumer advocate fighting against corporate interest groups and defending California families’ ability to move up the economic ladder.

In a statement announcing Congresswoman Katie Porter’s endorsement of Fox, Porter remarked:

“Melissa Fox is the type of fearless, experienced and principled leader we need in Sacramento because she will tirelessly fight for a fair and thriving economy that works for everyone in Orange County.  Throughout her career, Melissa has championed the issues that are most important to Orange County families, including fighting for workplace protections and living wages, a green energy future that creates jobs and sustains our environment, and a public education system that ensures that every child has a quality education. I am proud to endorse Melissa Fox for California’s 68th Assembly District because she stands up for the values that will lead our county forward.”

Last week, Fox secured critical support from eligible delegates at the California Democratic Party’s Pre-Endorsement Conference, earning 72% of the vote from the 68th Assembly District Caucus and ensuring that her name will be considered for automatic endorsement at the upcoming CDP Convention.

For the most recent June 30th filing deadline, Fox’s campaign announced that she had outraised her opponent, Steven Choi, more than 2:1, with Fox’s campaign bringing in a significant $174,515, while Choi only raised $77,785.
