State Controller Betty Yee Backs Cottie for Assembly in AD-74

 

Irvine, CA – California State Controller Betty Yee announced her endorsement today for Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris’ re-election campaign. Yee joins a growing coalition of federal, state and local leaders, labor organizations, business leaders and local groups that have stepped up to support Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris.

In announcing her endorsement, Controller Yee released the following statement:
“Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris is an honest and thoughtful leader who is focused on keeping neighborhoods safe, helping businesses create jobs and responsibly managing our tax dollars. Cottie’s success in business has made her an effective legislator. She is keenly focused on delivering results for her district and avoiding political games. I am pleased to endorse her re-election campaign.”

Betty Yee has been working for California residents for 30 years. She was elected twice to the California Board of Equalization in 2006 and 2010, and went on to run successfully for California State Treasurer in 2014. Outside of her elected role, Yee serves as Vice President of California Women Lead, a non-profit non-partisan organization that supports women interested in running for elected office.

Cottie Petrie-Norris was elected to represent California’s 74th Assembly District in 2018. Over the course of her first year in office, she has introduced more than a dozen bills, including important legislation to combat sea-level rise, improve services for veterans, expand access to birth control and save small business owners money. As part of the 2019-2020 State Budget, Petrie-Norris secured $4.5 million to help the Orange County Fire Authority’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance project to protect Southern California from wildfires and $2.9 million to end Veteran homelessness in Orange County.

Petrie-Norris serves as Chair of the Assembly’s Accountability and Administrative Review Committee and as Chair of the Select Committee on Student Debt. She also serves on the Assembly’s committees for Appropriations, Judiciary, Revenue and Taxation and Veterans Affairs.

After working her way through Yale University, where she double majored in Economics and English, Cottie Petrie-Norris had a successful 20-year career in finance and technology. She helped to build businesses and led teams at Fortune 500 corporations, small companies and start-ups.

Petrie-Norris lives in Laguna Beach with her husband, Colin, their two sons, Dylan and Hayden, and their rescue dog, Flounder.
