Irvine, Calif.— Tammy Kim, nonprofit leader, community advocate, and small business owner, announced her candidacy for Irvine City Council. Tammy will compete for one of the two seats on the council that will come open, an at-large election with a 130,000 registered voters.

“I’m extremely proud to be a part of the fabric of Irvine,” says Kim. “In past decades, Irvine has led the way on the things we all value – excellent public schools, safe neighborhoods, robust business environment and open spaces. But Irvine now faces challenges such as unsustainable growth, projected budget deficit, high cost of living, and traffic congestion . These issues are jeopardizing our quality of life and require immediate action and strong leadership.”

“My background as a nonprofit leader in Irvine, a small business owner, and as someone who has spent 20 years in the corporate sector overseeing complex business operations on a global scale, has given me the qualifications and skill set to take on these challenges and come up with innovative and comprehensive solutions. Moreover, my experience as a community advocate and working mom has given me deep and nuanced understanding of th e day-to-day realities that our residents encounter. I am ready to lead Irvine in a positive direction and will fight to protect the quality of life for ALL our residents, including our families, our seniors, and our young people.

“I look forward to representing everyone in Irvine. I will run a positive campaign, one in which I will display integrity and honesty in all my interactions as I have done throughout my career. I understand the challenges facing working families in Irvine and will be a strong advocate for improving public life for all residents,” she added.
